Hi Deb,
I used the freeBMD's to look up Konhania's birth, but found nothing I also searched for Euphemia, and other strange names, but no luck there also.

Interesting fact that I did find in Sep Q 1839, there is a Maria Mudge Davis Newton Abbot 10 153. After the email I recieved from Mary Davis yesterday, this entry is quite interesting. If I had not recieved the email I would not have given it a second glance.

Now I am wondering was John's daughter named Maria Mudge, and as she grew up and was possibly facinated by her Aunts name of Monhamia changed her name to be more like it, and became Konhania?  But if this is not our family line then Konhania or Euphemia who ever she really was simply was never registered by her family.

Hi haselbury

How wonderful  ;D ...although we do need to follow up to try to confirm  :-\

In 1861 I did find Ann Davis nee Luckes living next door to a Mary Davis , who was much older. I was going to post it later as I got sidetracked today .

I had also looked for Euphemia/Konhania's birth to no avail .... It might be worth your while to purchase the birth cert of Maria Mudge Davis to confirm her parentage.

I will reread the details of your email and see what can be found/confimed.

Mary is most generous ... :D

added ...I see the Stockham name ....maybe e can connect to the other Stockham Davis

Hi Deb,

I have had a thought about Maria Mudge Davis, it is quite possible that she may have been the youngest daughter of William Davis and his wife Mary Ann Mudge. As Mary Ann Mudge was Baptised at West Teignmouth, Devon on 31 July 1791, and would have been around 48 or 49 when Maria was born. This would make her the sister of John Davis married to Ann nee Luckes.

William + Mary Ann's first two had Mudge in the middle of their names, so why not their last?

At this stage I do not want to get a certificate that might turn out to not be related to me at all. For all I know, the Maria Mudge Davis may belong to a completely different family altogether. I think I need more evidence, before I buy the certificate, as money is a bit tight at the moment. I just cannot justify wasting it.

Hi

I have been looking around again  ;D

I have just noticed on the 1841 census that 'next door' to Your John and Ann Davis there is a family who has Susan Davis , 75, widow living with them .

Thomas LORAM 30 j. Tailor
Amelia 30
George 8
Georgeana 5
Charlotte 3
Mary 3 months
Susan Davis 75 widow ... nee Bradden who married John Davis 26 Dec 1784 ?

The same Loram family are living next door to your Davis family in 1851. (now have another child Emma)

The loram children's christenings are on IGI ..couldn't find a marriage of Thomas Loram but did find this;
Amelia DAVIS = Thomas BORAM
23 APR 1832   Saint Sidwell, Exeter, IGI extracted

Amelia DAVIS d/o William Davis and Ann
11 FEB 1810   Saint Mary Steps, Exeter (IGI ext.)

so could Amelia Davis be the sister of your John? Or is she just a close relative?

1861
Dawlish
Back of Lawn Terrace or Glen Close Place
Ann Davis wid 54 lace maker
Monkleima(sic) dau 22 ditto
Thomas son 17 jeweller ap
Henry son 13 page
/ next door
Mary DAVIS head wid 71 dressmaker b Teignmouth.............. John's mother?
Catherine Barnett relation unm 17 house servant b Exeter
Georgina LORAM dau 24 dressmaker b Dawlish
Emma LORAM dau 17 ditto
(not sure why the Loram girls are down as daughters)

ummm will look further

Thanks Deb,
I did some looking myself, and found the following information: on FreeBMD's
Amelia Loram died Newton Abbot 5b 74  Sep Q 1852

Thomas Loram remarried Sep Q 1860 Newton Abbot 5b 205
to Mary Rich

Thomas Loram died aged 69 Newton Abbot 5b 89
Dec Q 1878.

Perhaps in view of this, if Amelia was John's sister, his own mother Mary could have adopted Amelia's daughters, or it was supposed to be grand-daughter in the census but the grand was left out maybe by the transcriber.

I wonder if their was any children from his second marriage?
Did they still live in Dawlish?

Hi Haselbury

In 1871 Thomas Loram and 2nd wife Mary (49, Chudleigh) is with daughter Annie aged 10.

ahh just found them in 1861 under the name LoraN

Dawlish, Marine Parade
Thomas Loram head 52 mar tailor
Mary wife 37 b Chudleigh
Ann dau 4 months b dawlish
Ann  Payne sister in law wid 44  nurse b Chudleigh
Elizabeth Holman lodger mar 72 wife of Capt Holman b Coldbrook

so it looks like they had Ann/Annie together.

Hi Deb,
Thank you for that, the list keeps growing.

I went back over what Mary Davis sent to me. In her family list she said, John Davis who married Ann Burridge Luckes, and John was son of William who married Mary Ann Mudge, and William was son of John who married Susannah nee Braddon.

This entry below I just received, it came from Fred Brooks, who said he hoped it helps. Another without return address.
Thanks Fred if you read this.

The John Davis and Susannah nee Braddon had the following children:
1. William Davis c 27 May 1785 Mamhead
2. Thomas Davis c 7 Mar 1787 Mamhead
3. Charlotte Davis c 23 Oct 1792 Mamhead
4. Mary Anne Davis c 23 June 1794 Mamhead
5. Harriot Davis c 27 Dec 1798 Mamhead
6. Amelia Davis c 29 Dec 1801 Kenn
7. John Stockham Davis c 1 July 1803 Kenn
8. Henry Davis c 1 Dec 1808 Kenn

haselbury, could the William Davis married to Anne, who were parents to Amelia born 1810, be the brother of John Davis married to Susannah.
Fred Brooks

Deb, Fred Brooks, made me think about it all, and there could also be another explanation to it all. In the 1841 census, it does not give family relationships. You listed Susan Davis 75 Widow living with the Loram family, with Amelia Loram 30. As Thomas was only 30, I wonder if this Amelia is actually the daughter of John and Susannah, and that she lowered her age. Besides the ages in the 1841 were rounded down any way by some five years.

I really wish that there was some way to find, newspaper death notices or Obituaries for these people, as it may put things into perspective.
