Mary Smith of Clipstone
« on: Monday 16 February 09 10:53 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor was Mary Smith who was born in Clipstone (Mansfield) in (I'm pretty sure!) 1828. She married Robert Foulds in 1851 I think in Q3 Southwell and I think I've found her on the 1851 Census working as a servant in Sutton-on-Trent.
I've tried to find out more about her but have not had any success. I'd really like to know her parents names so that I can get back a bit further. I suppose her Marriage Cert would have her fathers name.
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.

I can't find a baptism for Mary so yes, the best way of finding her father is to buy the marriage certificate.

  Hi Jill
You have been busy. This is really good and I've already sent off for a Marriage Certificate for Mary Smith. I hope that you enjoyed finding this information as that's what it's all about in the end. The little girl Hilda, who you found staying with her Grandmother in 1891 was my Grandmother! So many women all together too.
Many thanks for all your efforts Jill.

Hi Woody,

I'm glad you find it useful and hope the marriage certificate enables you to go further back.  I don't envy you with the name 'Smith'!

Good luck.
