Salford
« on: Sunday 15 February 09 18:03 GMT (UK) »
As I am a newbie to this I hope I am doing this right and am in the right place so here goes.  I am looking for a William Hollorn  (holloran)   etc born Salford 1922.  I cannot find him in any of the Census,s.  Also I know he was in Prison during the 1960,s  (Parkhurst)  and wondered if I can get to know anything about that.  His parents were John and Brigette (nee Kelly)  who both died at 30yrs of age.  William was put in an orphanage in Rochdale called Buckley Hall (can anyone give me information on this orphanage?) and my father Joseph born Salford 1919 Williams brother was in a orphanage in Salford called St Gerards (can anyone remember this orphanage).  Many thanks hope I havn,t asked too many questions  Buddha

Hi Buddha,

I can't offer you much help, but if you google as follows

"buckley hall" orphanage

you will find a number of hits that might be of interest to you.

Good luck,

Kay in USA

Hi Barbara, I,ve got most of the information on Joseph and Williams parents john and brigette, and also on their grandparents William and Alice but don,t think I can get further back because William and Alice were born in Ireland (no County).  Thanks anyway.  But I was interested to know more about the orphanages and also what happened to William born 1922 after he , I assume, left the orphanage.  I can remember meeting him just the once when I was about 8yrs old, many moons ago.  He seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.  He is the skeleton in our cupboard as I know he was in Parkhurst prison sometime in the 60s/70,s.  What for I have no idea.  Thanks Pat

P.S  Is there any way you can find prison records or does the 100yr rule apply?
