Photo WW1 Hospital & Info Please
« on: Saturday 14 February 09 14:53 GMT (UK) »
Would anyone know were this hospital might be please.
I am trying to gather infomation about my Gt Uncle Charles Bradley Birth 1896, he was in the 2nd Team Le!is Gun Section 2/2 London Regt. He is the second man front row from the bed. the one with the biggest bandage.
Any help would be most appreciated as I am having no luck in finding anything about him. All I do know is that he had shell shock.

I'm afraid it will be virtually impossible to pin the location of this ward down!!

Most towns had several dozen small wards and hospitals - alongside the usual General Hospitals and war hospitals - commandeered for the duration. Some people gave up rooms in their houses for the troops, and some gave entire houses over.

The large County Lunatic Asylums were frequently taken over as well....

Have you found his pension records on Anpestry yet? Therein may be the int you are looking for!

Have you checked on just his name? He may have been in another Regt as well...

If he was suffering from shell shock he may well be a "service patient"...

Before you go down that road, I commend to you "Forgotten Lunatics of The Great War" by Peter Barham....

Get a copy from the library to prepare yourself...

Hi Val !

There are 3 Charles Bradley's in the medal cards ... one in the 16th Battalion one in the 18th battalion and this one ... if this is him - then you also need to check the Royal Berkshire Regiment !

Medal card of Bradley, Charles W

2nd London Regiment 5495 Private
Royal Berkshire Regiment 43624 Private
Date 1914-1920

That room looks more like a house than a proper hospital doesn't it ?
