Richard HOOPER, sailmaker, scilly isles
« on: Saturday 14 February 09 10:30 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information regarding the parents of Richard Hooper, born 1802 in the Scilly Isles. He grows up to move on to Hamburg Germany and then Antwerp. I am descended from one of his sons Richard Bennett Hooper who was born in Hamburg.

I am descended from the same Richard Hooper, born 1802 on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly. Your ancestor Richard Bennett Hooper was the older brother of my gg grandmother Clara Adelaide Hooper.

Anyway, I have masses of information about Richard Hooper's descendants (around the world) and ancestors (in the Isles of Scilly), as well as about his wife Mary Turner's family. They were from Davington, Kent. The Bennett name was her mother's maiden name.

Let me know what you'd like to find out and I'll be happy to help.

Catherine

My son found your post about Richard and Mary Hooper - I couldn't believe my eyes.  My wife is descended from them via their daughter Annie(Anna) who was born in Haute-Flemalle Liege in Belgium when Richard was working on the Liege- Namur railway.

I'd be really interested in hearing what else you know of the runaway couple and exchanging information.

I have been out of touch and off line for a couple of years and only today found the replies to my 2009 post. Very interested to make contact with both 'relatives'

Hello, I am not a Hooper however I own the Hooper house in Gayton Cheshire and I would be keen to discover more about the family.
The house was built in 1904 for Richard Henry Hooper 1865 1936 ( son of Richard Bennet Hooper) and lived in by Mary Hooper 1837 - 1926 his mother, R B Hooper's widow and his daughter Alice Constance Hooper 1876 - 1965  My family purchased the house in the 1960s from A C Hooper's estate.
In the local church is a single grave for R B Hooper, Mary Hooper, R H Hooper, Alice C Hooper with an additional plaque for Annie Kaye Aug 30th 1926 and Fredrick Kaye April 4th 1936.
In the census of 1911 there is also Arthur Stanley Hooper staying at the house R H Hooper's brother and James Richard Haydon & Elma Selina Haydon R H Hooper's sister.
Any further history or details about the family would be very interesting.

Great to hear from you Alexander RE.  Loads of information for you .  Not sure who the Kaya’s are .  Something else for me to hunt down 😀. If I was to post you a letter to the address the house once had , would it still reach you ?
