Trying to find burial in East End of London
« on: Friday 13 February 09 11:22 GMT (UK) »
Mine is a more recent question.

My Grandparents died in the 1970's and they
lived in Tarling Street E.1, just off Commercial Road.

Can anyone tell me the most likeliest cemetery they
would be buried in?

Thanks in advance.

Sue

Hi Geoff

Thanks for your time.

I have put in St Pauls cemetery, Shadwell into the search engine
and can only find details for St Paul church.

Would you know where the burial records would be kept?

Hi Willow,

St Paul's was probably closed for burials by 1970. Try contacting the East London FHS

St Pauls was closed for burials in 1907

You can always look at Abney Park just in case http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~abneypark/abneyy.html

My relatives from that area were buried in Manor Park cemetary but as Geoff says check the eolfs site

If they were living in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, they might be at City of London or Wanstead cemeteries

Hi, I come from near Tarling Street, the 2 Cemeteries for Stepney would be City of London in Manor Park, and Forest Gate, Sebert Road, E7.        Lesley
Rumsey's in woolwich and canada, markes in london/hants. Browns in west yorkshire, and london

Knowing that area well, I would say City of London in Manor Park is by far the the most likely.

St Paul's has been closed for public burials some time before the period you are looking at.
