Anyone got access to Mi`s in Montrose

Surname interests are Stephen and Nicol (possibly double L)

Rather than give a lot of details, if you would like to give a basic list of the first names for each surname, I could check the 24 Nichol(l) and the 19 Stephen entries for Montrose for you, to see whether any appear at all, either singly or in a group.

Nicol(l) first  - more detail on dates is available if needed:

Montrose parish church:

George Nicol  age 63 in 1897, provides a stone for his father,
David Nicol, cabinet maker d. 1851, and his mother Magdalene Lyons.
Then listed are George's brothers and sisters - James, d. 1858, age 25, Elizabeth, d. 1861, at 21, David and Jean.

William Nicol  shipmaster who dies 15 Dec 1816 at 41.


Montrose Rosehill

James Nicoll dies 1861 at 79, his wife, Margaret Edward, 1870.

James Nicoll seaman 1883 or 1888 provides a stone for his wife Susan Crabb and his son Alex.  On the other side is his infant grandson, James W Nicoll.

In memory of William Nicol d. 1853 at 19, son of Dan Nicol a gardener at Hedderwick.

For son William Nicoll d. 1850 at 22 by John Nicoll, merchant, who dies 1866 at 82.

Stephens, with more details if needed -

Montrose parish church:

John Stephen d.1817 59; son James d. 1822 18.  Other side has John Stephen, wife Isobel Burnet d. 1825 58  - (but it doesn't say which one's the deceased).

An obelisk  - for his wife, Margaret Ross, d. 1870 67 by James Stephen, shipmaster.

Montrose Episcopal:

A possible Betsy  - an Elizabeth Stephen, wife to David Mitchell, dying 1904 at 89.

Montrose Rosehill:

Stone given by James Stephen for his wife, Helen Dorward d. 1862 at 70 and sons John d. 1848 29 and James d. at Glasgow aged 26 in 1849

A possible Betsy dying at Newcastle in 1884 at 68 as the wife of James Fox.

William Stephen with the death of his infant son James  - other children are Jessie, David, May, Hendry and Frank.

An Isabella Lonie d. 1881 at 42 whose husband was "A. Stephen".

A stone for the Edwards family ending with  mother Jessie Stephen d. 1879 at 82.

A Thomson family stone with daughter Jessie d. 1922 at 73 whose husband James Brown Stephen died at "Buenos Ayres" in 1915 age 65.

Stone by Andrew Stephen for his first wife Esther Burness d. 1882 and children Christina, Jane and James; second wife, Eliz Roberts.
