That didn't take long!

It is now not known where the "Associate Church" was, but this should tell you what there is to know:
http://www.scottishchurches.org.uk/sites/site/id/10415/name/Ceres+United+Presbyterian+Church+Ceres+Fife.

The photos on this site are unreliable - the pix shown here don't relate to this building at all (naturally, since it is not known where it was!) but show the Memorial Hall, once the "Relief Church".

It is unreasonably difficult to get your head round all the splits and re-unitings in the Scottish churches!

I have just tracked down a son of Peter Sturrock and Alicia (Alice) Dalgleish - William born about 1833 in St. Andrews. He seems to have moved to London where he married Sarah Screen in Marlebone the 3rd quarter of 1864. They had 3 children all born in Kensington - James the 4th quarter 1866, Peter William the 4th quarter 1868 and Andrew Douglas the 3rd quarter 1870. The whole family shows up in the 1871 census, but Andrew Douglas died 3rd Quarter 1871 in Kensington. I can't find them in the 1881 census, so I searched the 1881 Scottish census. Father William and son James seem to have moved to Edinburgh where they were hairdressers. I don't know what happened to Sarah or Peter William...does anyone know anything about this branch of the family?
Have just found out that Sarah did indeed move up to Edinburgh with her husband and eldest son James. She had another son, Alfred, born 8/4/1879. Tragically on 27th Sept 1880 she committed suicide by hanging in Edinburgh. James eventually moved to Maryhill, Glasgow (still a hairdresser) and married Annie Irvine Harley who was born in Maryhill. I have found 4 daughters and a son so far for them. In the 1901 census he is listed as a hairdresser (manager). I still don't know what happened to Peter William Sturrock...

Do you have a father's name from his marriage to Fanny (from 1881 census)? If so you can seach on Scotlands People http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk to find likely candidates. When you have the names of his parents you can search easily enough for their children in the OPRs.
Kirsty

The James that married Fanny (as far as I can see) was the son of Peter Sturrock (born 1/12/1800 in Ceres) & Alice/Alicia Dalgleish. She was born in England, but that's all I know...

There would appear to be a connection between James Sturrock (1821-1898) and my John Sturrock (abt 1780-?), who was also listed as a 'Perfumer and Hairdresser' in Cupar, Fife on the record of his marriage and on his children's baptismal records.

John Sturrock married Amelia Bonnar, the daughter of Alexander Bonnar, a brewar, in Dundee, Angus on 15 January 1810. They had at least three children in Cupar, Fife - Alexander (b. 1810), Emelia (b. 1812) and Charles (b. 1817).

I am a descendant of John and Amelia's daughter Emelia Bonnar Sturrock (b.1812), who married William Glass Stewart, a teacher, in Cupar, Fife on 24 November 1833 and who emigrated to Canada and had a large family.

Now that I've read this post, I will chase up what connection there is between William Sturrock and John Sturrock, since my John Sturrock and William's son James were both perfumers and hairdressers in Cupar, Fife! It would be interesting to hear back from anyone who might already have made the connection. My sources are from original documents downloaded from ScotlandsPeople.
