Thomas Rolfe 1758 christening, Westminster
« on: Tuesday 10 February 09 17:35 GMT (UK) »
Thomas Rolfe, born 1758, baptised St George's Westminster
Married Susan(na) Heyborn (also spelt Heybourne) 30.5.1783, st George's

The baptismal reference comes from IGI, but there is no information on his parents.  Are there any other records which will give me this information?  I read somewhere that there is a register called Boyd's which may help me, but cannot find access to it online. ???

Thank you.

Hi Ismelda

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

The entry you have found on the IGI is submitted by a member of the church, not extracted by the LDS from the parish records.

Consequently there is no actual date nor names of the parents, basically it could be someone's best guess, and may not even have taken place at that church.

Boyd's index is available online on some subscription sites, sorry I don't have access. If you put Boyd's Index into a search engine such as Google, you will find out which site has it. Please do not request a specific look-up from that site as it breaks the Rootschat terms & conditions of use.

Hopefully someone who has access will read this message and can check for you.

Thanks for this speedy reply.

The marriage entry appears on a comprehensive family website dedicated to the Hebborn name (and all derivations of it), so I assume there has been a record traced.  I know that Susanna's parents were Thomas and Rebecca (nee Tripp) from Bledlow in Bucks.  Since Susanna married in Westminster, I am working on the assumption that Thomas Rolfe may be from there, hence my interest in the possible baptismal record at St George's on IGI.  I know that Thomas had died by the 1841 census, as his wife is listed as a widow, so it is proving difficult to find any real links for him.

I will try to find access to Boyd's online.  Meanwhile, if anyone else can help with info, that would be fantastic.  I am helping a friend who has just started researching her tree, picking up on work her late mother began some time ago.  She is unravelling several false leads, and has hit a brick wall on the Rolfe line!

Thanks.

Hello again

I have accessed Boyd's online, and the marriage is recorded at St George's.  The website I used says that the original parish register contains much more information than the index, but it does not tell me how to access it.  Does anyone know?

Thanks!  :D

I've just checked my copy of Phillimores Atlas and the registers have been deposited at the City of Westminster Archives, but the entries are not included on the IGI (extracted) or Pallots Index 1780-1837.

The marriage registers have been transcribed by the Harleian Society (vol 1 1725-1787) so the actual marriage date could have come from there.

Don't assume anything with this genealogy habit  :P

The couple may have only been resident in the parish of St George Hanover Square for 3 weeks before calling the banns, unless they married by licence.

We shall definitely make a trip to the archives in Westminster to see what other information is in the parish entry.  Hopefully we will find details of his parents, as although we have found other Rolfes in the area at the same time, we cannot connect them as yet.

I have also managed to unearth a will for Thomas Rolfe in 1836, which is at the Metropolitan archives.

Thanks for your help! :)
