looking for members pre 1851
« on: Saturday 12 February 05 20:23 GMT (UK) »
hi - i have got back as far as 1851  ;D
- can anyone tell me how to go about searching now ??? ???
i assume we would look in the parish records

i seem to recall that you can buy parish records etc on
cd- rom  but cant seem to find any info on that now and i am beginning to wonder if i imagined it!

the place i am after is sible hedingham in ESSEX -

can you buy these? - do they cover more than one parish?
or all they all a figment of my imagination???  :-[

i am moving out of the country soon so if i can obtain these cd roms that will make my search easier

many thanks

Pootle,

Yes, I think you need parish records.

I don't know if they are available on CD but did you know that the LDS has microfilmed a lot (but not all) of English parish records?

You can check their catalogue online at www.familysearch.org, or at an LDS Family History Centre.  If you find the ones you want, you can order them in to your local LDS centre and they will let you know when they come.  You then have four weeks to go through them.

This works well for me in Aus., so I am sure it will work for you!

I'm on t'other side, near the east coast, in Queensland! :)

I think my Hartleys lived in Brighton for awhile, but didn't come from there originally.  He was a portrait painter in Victorian times :)
