WHERE IS BRINKSWAY is it CHEADLE? STOCKPORT?

Can anyone with local knowledge, tell me where Brinksway is please?

Is it Cheadle or Cheadle Heath or Stockport? Or .....

I'm having difficulty finding my ggggrandfather's baptism.  On the censuses he gave Cheadle as his place of birth but his baptism isn't recorded in Cheadle (well at least not in the parish church and the family were C of E). 

However, there does seem to be a strong family link with Brinksway - it is mentioned as the abode on several baptisms and I was hoping that, if I can find out where it is, I might be able to find out which church people from Brinksway might go to to have their children baptised.

Any ideas please?

Hi Ninian - there's a road (part of the A560) called Brinksway in present day Stockport - I did a search on

& found it.

Hi Ninian, Brinksway is in Stockport, postcode SK3.
You can google it and look on google maps - it'll give you exact location. I'm not familiar with the area so I can't give you anymore.

hi there, brinksway runs from almost near stsockport town centre along to cheadle heath. The chanes are that it will be cheadle parish church where these records would be

Thanks everyone.  I'm better informed now ..... but still confused!  Brinksway seems to be pretty much in Stockport. But the 'hamlet of Brinkway' (according to Genuki) is part in Stockport and part in Cheadle -  which seems odd if it is near to the centre of Stockport!!

Do you think Brinksway was not so much a hamlet, but was just the area along the road from Stockport to Cheadle?

As my Elijah says on the census that he was born in Cheadle in 1813 (in Brinksway, I think), there only seem to be the parish churches of Stockport and Cheadle where he could have been baptised (all the other churches seem to be later than 1813)   As he wasn't bapt in Cheadle parish church,  it certainly sounds as if it'll be worth me trying to get hold of the Stockport Registers.

Hi Ninian,

 Brinksway is in Stockport but that hasn’t always been the case. Before boundary changes in 1894 and 1901 it was in the parish of Cheadle. It was/is a small area sandwiched between Chestergate which is Stockport ,and Cheadle Heath.
St Mary’s Parish Church was and still is the main C of E church for Cheadle.
St Augustine’s Church was on Stockport Road, Brinksway but baptisms didn’t start there until 1887.
 St Mary’s Church Stockport is nearer to Brinksway than St Mary’s Cheadle and was a popular choice for people living in the area.
