Henry Pate
« on: Sunday 08 February 09 20:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello, hope someone can help -  ran into a brick wall with my husband's family.  Looking for a marriage between a Mary Houghton and Henry Pate.  They had a son, John born November 1859, West Derbyshire, now Merseyside.  Both John and Henry were carters by profession - not sure what this is.  John married Margaret Forsyth in October 1918, they were living in Wavertree, they had one son, Reginald John who was born when Margaret was 41 and John was 63.  John died in 1926 and Margaret returned to live with her parents in Carlisle with young Reg.

Have tried Free bdm and mormons site.  On the marriage certificate, it stated that John was a widow when he married Margaret. Thanks in anticipation. :)

Hi Exredhead  :)

Sorry to say I think you really need John's birth cert to tell for sure (birth certificates show mother's maiden names).

Just to throw in a guess, after a quick look at the censuses, I quite like this marriage:
Jun 1856 Wirral 8a 486
Henry Pate - Mary Hawkins

Wirral covers Oxton, where John's older brother William was born in ca. 1858 according to the 1861 census.
