Zion Road??
« on: Saturday 07 February 09 20:09 GMT (UK) »
I've been researching my husband's family (Chapman) in the 1911 census.  It lists them as living at 2 Cottage Place, Zion Road, Off Stapleton Road Bristol.  We've looked on a map but are unable to locate it.  Does anyone know if it still exists or if it's now known as something else?

Thanx

Hi
I had a look on the 1901 for the address.
immediately before Zion Rd is the Trinity Church and vicarage and also St Phillips Police Station following the different blocks which are subtitled Zion Rd comes Waterloo Place,Stapleton Rd.
So I suspect it is somewhere in the block which was immediately behind (NE) Holy Trinity church, which appears from google satellite photos to now be a business park.
Malmesbury- Bishop.
Gloucestershire-Bishop,Hicks,Higgs,Hill,Hooper,Hopkins,Pitcher,Robertson,Stinton,Terret,Woodruff.
Worcestershire-Stinton.
Devon- Borrough or Burrow.

Zion Road can be seen behind Trinity Church, sometimes spelt Sion Road, running from Stapleton Road to Clarence Road on Know Your Place map
https://maps.bristol.gov.uk/kyp/?edition=&map
today it would have run from 7 Stapleton Road to the Telephone exchange in Clarence Road
It can be seen clearly on the 1947-65 map, (on the 1874 map it's called Pig Lane)
