   :)  Hello DouglasW,

  A warm welcome to Rootschat.

I have other info on Edwell family. Is there anything else or just Sophia?

  Kind regards,
  Lesanne.

I am descended from a brother of Henry Cosstick who married Sophia Edwell in 1844, however I have published, and am now revising for a new edition, a history of the Cosstick family.  Henry and Sophia are part of that broader picture.  Details of Sophia's early life and reasons for being in London during the 1840s are of interest.

Dear Caz
I have tried to go on to the web-sites you mention for the Baston family, but one seems unavailable and the other doesn't have my rellies on it - and apparently you can only make enquiries if they are on the list - I am looking at William Casemore Baston, born in Nuneham Courtney in 1816, the illegitimate son of, I think, Mary Baston, who was the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Baston.  Can you help at all please?  His father is supposed to be John Casemore - who I can't find on anything yet.  William Casemore Baston was the Estate Carpenter at Nuneham Courtney until his death in 1912.

The above link is for the 'Baston' tree on page 1 of this thread.

I think we have 'Casemore' as desc from Tom & Rose Baston.
One of their daughters, possibly Nellie Frances.

Let me know if you need this info.
Best wishes,
Lesanne.

Dear Lesanne
Thankyou very much for replying - he appears in the 1851 Census as the grandson of Stephen Baston who was a carpenter in the 1841 Census but by the 1851 Census is listed as an Agricultural labourer - mind you he is over 80 at this point!  My husband is descended from Alfred Ernest Baston, his son, born Nuneham May 1855.  The IGI did list William Casemore Baston as the son of Mary Baston but they don't seem to have anywhere near so many records available as they used to, and it has disappeared.

Just to confirm things for you :)

From OFHS Nuneham Courtney PRs

Baptisms

Aug 4 1816 William Cazemore son of William Cazemore and Mary Baston

And this could be Mary's Baptism

Jul 22 1798 Mary Baston dau of Stephen and Elizabeth b Jul 17

There was quite a few children for Stephen and Elizabeth so just say if you would like them posted. Also this below was the only marriage for Baston.

Dear Sue
Thank you very much - that is incredibly helpful - I take it that she and William Cazemore were not married, then.  If Mary subsequently married that explains why she doesn't appear on the censuses - he probably was brought up by his grandparents.  That is super!  With Stephen, his grandfather, it takes us nicely into the 18th Century, too.  I am SO grateful.
Again, thanks
