Paltons Park Romany Experience & Museum
« on: Thursday 05 February 09 12:26 GMT (UK) »
Sadly after 14 years Paultons Park Romany Museum which the Late Len Smith was advisor and also helped in the display.s and Wagon restoration , is to close down ,and an aution of all the vardo's (many are rare and valuable) is to take place in March I  emailed them to ask why it was closing down. This is their reply which I thought other members may be interested in .

Thank you for your email.

Since the Romany Museum opened in 1995 it has proved a very popular attraction with our guests, however over the years we have seen this popularity wane. As a result it has been decided that the museum will close.
The Romany Museum occupies a large indoor space which we intend to develop into an exciting indoor attraction as some time in the future.   However in order to make room we are holding an auction of all the Romany caravans and associated exhibits.   This is reputed to be one of the finest collections of its type in the country. The auction will be conducted by Thimbleby and Shorland www.tsauction.co.uk the leading international auctioneers of horse drawn carriages and any enquiries regarding contents etc. should be directed to them.

The auction will take place on Wednesday 18th March 2009 at Paultons Park starting at 10.00am. Viewing can take place on Tuesday 17th March from 10.00am to 4.00pm and also between 8.00am and 10.00am on the day of the sale.

NB: The Romany Museum will not open at any other time prior to the viewing date.
Regards
