DAVIES - Merthyr
« on: Thursday 05 February 09 11:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to trace the Baptism and mother of Letitia Davies b c 1849 Merthyr (plus any census info pre 1871).

On her marriage certificate her father is named as Roderick Davies and is described as an Engine Tender.

Thanks in Anticipation

Thanks Cas

I'd found this census but thought the daughter was Selina!!!! but can see now it could be Letitia.

I have the 1852 birth certificate, but sadly it isn't my Letitia.

I will look at possible marriages - I don't think the one you have highlighted is mine as I have a census record of a Roderick Davies living with his in-laws the Mainwarings which would suggest that Sarah is the wife from those records. By the way I don't think this Roderick is mine either. Perhaps I need to broaden my search to Westmoreland!!!

I've een trying to crack this problem for 10 years +, not helped by the family moving to Patagonia and thus I can't firm up any information to help the search from later census records.

Once again thanks, and I'll look into the 1861 details and see what I can make of it

This is the only other birth that comes up

Births Dec 1845   Davies  Letitia    Merthyr Tydfil  26 382

You could contact Merthyr reg office and ask for a check on father's name

Only other thing I can think... is maybe she was not registered under 'Davies'  There are a few registered in Merthyr around 1849 called Letitia.  Maybe her mother married Rod later, food for thought anyway

Good luck
