Hi Hockeystick,

How old was Thomas when he died? I'm trying to narrow down a time frame for a possible marriage. The oldest George son showing in 1881 is 10 years old but looking at the 1871 census, I see a possible family - Thomas George age 41 born Northampton and Susannah George age 33 born Coventry (I do think Susannah Parsons in 1881 is shown as born Warwickshire Coventry) - who already have 2 children, aged 13 and 14.

Now if the family I found above are the ones:

1871
RG10/1488 21 3
23 College Street n°7 Court
Thomas George, head, 41, Jobbing Labourer, b. Northampton
Susannah, wife, 33, b. Coventry
Emma, dau, 14, Fitter of Shoes, b. Northampton
Thomas W, son, 13, Costermonger, b. do.

Then after much searching I have a feeling they were called Webb in 1861 (RG9/2178 5 3), which isn't going to make things easier for us :P Maybe the best way to find out her maiden name is to order Lily's birth cert after all - or even Susannah's marriage cert to Mr Parsons, which would show her father's name.

Thomas died 15.2.1878 aged approx 47, children from this marriage to susannah are,Thomas born about1858,alfred about 1871 in northampton, Joseph 1874 in Birmingham, lily born 1877 in northampton, emma 1857 in Northampton Is this of any help. I have a lot of history on George family but draw a blank on Susannah

OK, you have the children I saw in 1871 then, so it looks like the correct 1871 census. Do you agree it's the same family in 1861 showing as Webb, living in Aston?

Emma and Thomas W were both registered as George in Northampton. With Susannah being 34 in 1871 and 24 in 1861, we'd expect a marriage in the late 50s but I must say I can't see one.

Browsing the 1851 census for a Susannah born Coventry ca. 1838, I can see a Susannah Roberts age 13 born Coventry living in Northampton. I'd like her to be the one but however hard I search, I can't find a marriage.

I hope someone else has better eyes or access to other resources - otherwise you'll have to go the certificate route I'm afraid

I would start with ordering the birth certificate for Lily GEORGE, knowing the maiden name of her mother will make it easier (hopefully) to find her parents marriage.
