Hello Lynn. Here they are:-

Sacred to the memory of James Rowe of Tow law who died October/12/1860 aged 51 years.
Also Elizabeth Davison, daughter of the above who died December/3/1863 aged 28 years.
Also Ann Rowe the beloved wife of James Rowe who departed this life December/29/1871 aged 55 years.
Also Mary Ann, wife of John Young who died September/2/1873 aged 34 years.
Also Isabella, the beloved wife of Thompson Naisbit who died June/11/1876 aged 37 years.

In loving memory of Annie the beloved wife of Coniah Rowe who died March/17/1912 aged 64 years.
Also the above Coniah Rowe who died November/25/1916 aged 73 years.

In loving memory of George, dearly beloved husband of Mary Thompson of Hedley Hill, who departed this life March/26/1908 aged 66 years.

In memory of Elizabeth, the beloved wife of John Thompson of Tow law, who died September/4/1873 aged 56 years.
Also the above John Thompson, who died August/6/1891 aged 81 years.

In loving memory of Robert William, beloved son of Thomas and Hannah Thompson who died September/11/1886 aged 4 months.

In loving memory of Sarah Ellenor Thompson, died 16/July/1938 aged 69 years.
Also George, husband of the above died 1/May/1919 (no age given)

There is another stone with dates of 1962, 1974, 1982, 1985, 1986 with the names of Thompson and Harle.

I do no like posting these later dated inscriptions on the board
but if they were yours and you wanted them, I could send them.

Adam

Hi Adam

many thanks for that.
Unfortunatley I don't think the Thompsons are the ones I am interested in, so it won't be necessary for the later ones. I'm just going through the Rowes now and it looks promising.

You seem to be doing half my work for me.  :o

Can I ask you adam, how do you know which inscriptions to do that have not been done before? Is there a listing anywhere?  I am thinking of doing the same as you have done for my local area in Leeds, but don't want to duplicate. Any advice welcome!! ;D ;D

Hello Lynn.
First look at the local history websites. Check their publications page to see what churches or cemeteries have been completed.
Go to the place that you would like to work on and have a walk round, checking the condition of the gravestones.
I find the industrial areas are usually better than the country ones because they do no have the amount of the dreaded lichen.
Wait until the autumn to start(less grass, weeds and trees/bushes to struggle against)
All you need then is a soft brush and a little hand spray.
Never try to scrape a stone because that only speeds up the weathering etc.
