Christopher LORDAN in Canada 1918 why? COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Tuesday 03 February 09 14:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
CHRISTOPHER CAVE LORDAN born 1887 Romsey, Hampshire was in Canada June 1918 & missed his father's funeral. We know nothing of him, when he went, why he went or if he came back!
Any record of him would be much appreciated.
Many thanks, Kay

Hi Kay,

There is a Christopher Lordan at the British Columbia death index. It reads: Christopher Lordan age 75, death date Apr 4 1963, Coquitlam BC, registration no. is 1963-09-004708, BCA #13261, GSU #2033503.

I can't tell you if this is your Christopher, but you should be able to get an obituary for him. Sorry I couldn't of been more help, maybe someone else will be.

Thank you Lisa, that is a great start. The combination of unusual surname, correct age & other distant family having died in BC in the 70's make it a good bet.
It is good of you to take the time to reply,
Many thanks,
Kay

Find My Past has a record of a Christopher Lordan born 1887 (age approx.) arriving 1948 in Liverpool, england from Montreal, Canada.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you aghadowey, it's always interesting to find that people DID actually pop back to see relatives. I'm sure you would have mentioned if there was another Lordan with him, so it seems likely he hadn't married.
Many thanks for your time,
Kay

Hi Kay,

I looked at Ontario marriages & BC marriages & did not see a marriage for Christopher. If he married it could of been in a province that doesn't have genealogical vital stats on line. Your best bet is to get his obit & I do know a lady who will go get it for you & "snail mail" it to you.
Interestingly, I found a Christ Lordan on the 1911 census. He states his age as 23 & born Sept 1887 in England, immigration year 1907, he is a domestic to the James Yarrison family of Dundas district of Ontario.

Hi Lisa,
Thank you again. The obituary would be brilliant.  My Christopher's birth was registered Mch qtr 1887, I will look to see if he is in the UK 1911 census index, just incase there are two 23 year old Christopher Lordans!
Many thanks for your continued help,
Kay

Hi Nell,
Thank you too, that is brilliant, obviously he didn't stay long. Must now try to find out who he was with in Enfield, it's a new area to me.
Your help is much appreciated,
Thank you both,
Kay
