Hi Faith,

Thanks so much for your post re: William Anderson. I haven't been able to find any other information to date. I was hoping the passenger list may had had some more extensive information, like occupation, district he lived in the UK etc.

Thanks for following this up from such a long time ago.

Regards

Re passenger list SS Great Britain

If anyone can help me out on a few missing links on this. it would be great.
Missing links
outward travel dates
who she was accompanied by on her outward travel
inward travel back to the UK in and around 1877 t0 1879
and was accompanied by William and Elsie Bowman aged 16 and 9

Passenger Margaret Josephine Prendergast from Creegh Co Clare Born 1851
we think she may have traveled from Liverpool  to  Victoria  arrived between 1869 t0 1871
Settled in Fitzroy Melbourne and married John James Beresford Bowman on 1872 Mr bowman passed away suddenly in 1879
History has shown Mr Bowman was solicitor and defended Ellen Kelly mother of Ned Kelly outlaw in Jan 1879.
If anyone can help on this it would great

Noeleen, there is no Margaret Josephine Prendergast listed on the Outward to Australian SS Great Britain Lists. But a family of Prendergasts arrived from Liverpool on Voyage 35 which left Liverpool on 19 March 1870 which does not include an M J.
 Good Luck - Faith

Hi Faith.

Thank you for your reply, Where does one look from here ? I don't know if ships left from Queenstown ( Cobh ) Ireland for Australia. There seems to be so many ships left Liverpool and London. Have you any advice where to start.

Many thanks for your search

Kind regards Noeleen

Ps if I may wish you and yours a very Happy Christmas

Hi Noeleen
I haven't got the sites at my fingertips but drag through the Australian Board on Rootschat as I'm sure so many having been using useful sites and you may see what you want there.
After that, if nothing turns up then post a query. The Arrivals are well documented for those we have searched for. Where are you - in UK or Australia as the Australian Papers had a wonderful Shipping News column which so often, as you have a small time frame to search, gave passenger names, admittedly sometimes Steerage were all lumped together.
I'm no expert but I would be sure to say that most Irish left from Liverpool as I know my Isle of Man immigrants went there to get a ship. Unless there was some reason to be in London and leave from there.

Good Luck - Faith

I am looking for two brothers (of my G-G-Grandfather) with the surname Newton that traveled from Liverpool England to Australia in the 1858- 1864 time frame.

My Great-Great Grandfather was Born Jan 2 1846, At the age of 16, Samuel Charles Newton came to the US in 1862 from Cornwall England?  He came with the Bath family who settled in the Auburn Nebraska area.

I know that the surname Newton was listed on the SS Great Britain passenger list, I am assuming that these brothers would have been older late teens early twenties, my guess traveling by themselves.

Thank you for any help

Are you still looking for info on ssGB passenger lists? I recently started volunteering there, and should be able to check in the New Year.
