James Dickinson born 1828
« on: Monday 02 February 09 17:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have the following on my tree:-

James Dickinson born 1828 in Lancashire, England.      His parents were Mary Hampson (born in the Upholland/Orrell area of Lancashire) born c1797, died c1851 and John Dickinson born 1796, died 1837.

They travelled with family and other "Saints" in 1850 from Liverpool to New Orleans.

I believe most of the family died due to a Cholera epidemic in or around 1851.    Although approximately three family members survived.

James Dickinson was the brother-in-law of David Sudworth.

James Dickinson married a Sarah Jane Snyder born 1838, died 1924 and I believe they settled in Utah.     I have accounted for approximately fifteen children.

Apart from the fact that I would be interested to hear from anyone descended from James and Sarah and would be interested if anyone could add to the story of the journey from Lancashire to New Orleans etc.

I may have information pertinent to other people.

I am a Hampson and Mary Hampson was the sister of my g.g.g.g. grandfather Thomas Hampson and I do have information on Hampson's if anyone is interested.

Any information would be very much appreciated and if I can pass on anything useful I am happy to do that.

Many thanks.

Here is a link to a site where you can view: "A Noble Heritage" by Otis Alonzo Dickinson Jr. and Hannah Mattie Haslam.  It has photos of James Dickinson and maybe others along with some biographical material.

http://www.lib.byu.edu/fhc/index.php

Sometimes, when I put in the title of a book that I know they have, it doesn't show up.  If this happens, just put in, Dickinson, and it should be the 2nd title that appears.

Could I just thank you both very, very much for the website links.     I am absolutely delighted with both of these sites.    I have just had a brief look and I will have a good read this evening.

I was particularly interested to see the photograph of James Dickinson, and although it is very old and a bit blurry, my goodness he is definitely a Hampson!

So once again thank you so very much.

If anyone else reads this I would like to reiterate that I do have family tree for Hampson's going back to the mid-late 1600's if anyone is descended from the Dickinson/Hampson line and would like any information.

Victoria.

Hi I am researchng my Hampson family tree and have only just seen your posts. My grandfather was Williaqm b1897. I still live in the area and so close to original records. I would love to see a tree going back to 1600 as I have reached a brick wall at 1800 with two people born the same year appearing in the parish records for Upholland!
