Welcome to Rootschat, barncot.  If you got a copy of the marriage certificate you would have his age, father's name & occupation which would enable you to research him further back,

thanks for the welcome Jane.  I just thought he may have formed part of someone else's research.

I would like to find out what happened to them but I'm beginning to feel it's maybe harder working forward than going back in time.  Any suggestions?

Yes, you're right, it is more difficult finding more recent information  :(

It's possible he served in WWI so there might be some records.  In fact I found on Ancestry the service record (1914-1920) of a Henry John Bloomfield.  His address was 4, Jennett Rd, Waddon, Croydon.  His father is given as George.  His DOB is 1894 & he signed-up 12/12/1915 at Croydon.  His occupation is given as engineer.  On the 1901 census this Henry is to be found at 2 Jennett Rd with his parents, George & Deborah.  But it remains to be seen if it's YOUR Henry  ;)  I noted that his marriage to Charity was in the name of Henry J. Bloomfield.

FreeBMD gives 2 daughters to Henry & Charity, Blanche L.G. (Q3 1918 Cry) & Hazel M. (Q2 1920 Cry)  This indicates that he did survive the war.

It's always a good idea to register your surname interests on the 'Surname Interest Board' here at Rootschat.  Scroll down to the bottom of this page & you'll see the link.

Hope that helps,

jane

You're welcome but the only way to confirm all the information is to get a copy of that marriage certificate otherwise you might be barking up the wrong family tree  ;D

Hi,
Just wondering if you have found out if Charity Streeter was from Rotherfield?
I have been looking for her for years. Her brother my great grandfather came to Newfoundland and tracing his sisters has been a challenge. The dates match up very well that it could be her.

Hi Keon,
I have a feeling she's not the one you're looking for.  There is a death recorded for a Charity Bloomfield, Q4 1937 Croydon reg. district with a DOB of about 1894.
FreeBMD has a birth reg. for Charity Streeter, Q3 1894, Uckfield reg. district (Sussex) Could she have been born in Sussex?
I can't find her in 1901 but these are my findings thus far.
Perhaps if you posted more details on the appropriate board someone might be able to help find her & other siblings,

Jane

Hi Jane,
Charity Streeter was born in 1894 to Alfred Streeter and Rhoda (Upton) in Rotherfield, Sussex so her birth would have been registered in Uckfield. So dates match.
No luck with her and her sister Mary Rhoda but I did find their brother their mother died and Alfred remarried Rosa Wickens. The family is in the 1901 census but my great grandfather isn't with them as he was already in the Navy.
