Yes, you're right, it is more difficult finding more recent information
It's possible he served in WWI so there might be some records. In fact I found on Ancestry the service record (1914-1920) of a Henry John Bloomfield. His address was 4, Jennett Rd, Waddon, Croydon. His father is given as George. His DOB is 1894 & he signed-up 12/12/1915 at Croydon. His occupation is given as engineer. On the 1901 census this Henry is to be found at 2 Jennett Rd with his parents, George & Deborah. But it remains to be seen if it's YOUR Henry
I noted that his marriage to Charity was in the name of Henry J. Bloomfield.
FreeBMD gives 2 daughters to Henry & Charity, Blanche L.G. (Q3 1918 Cry) & Hazel M. (Q2 1920 Cry) This indicates that he did survive the war.
