Marrage Herbert Hill to Alice Hopkins
« on: Monday 02 February 09 17:34 GMT (UK) »
Herbert Hill born Wickham Market Suffolk 1871 died Newhaven Sussex 1950
Alice Hopkins born Beaconsfield 1868 died Eastbourne 1937

Herbert Hill delivered bread to Randolph Churchill residence in London where Alice Hopkins was working that is where they met.  I believe the period must have been around 1890 to 1895 as the first child was born in 1895.

There is no record of them marrying in Alice Hopkins area of Beaconsfield where her parents lived, nor at Wickham Market where Herbert Hill was born.

I have therefore come to the conclusion that it might have taken place in the Eaton Square or Hampstead area of London as the second child was born in West Hampstead in 1897.

Can anyone help me out with this please

Thank you

John Hill

Hi Tazzie

I am sorry to have to come back to you again after such a long break, but I have been trying really hard to get an actual date for the marriage of Herbet Hill and Alice Hopkins but so far no joy. Can I ask you what may seem a very basic question. Can I view the entry in the BMD for Vol 1a page 1086 to find out the exact date.  I want to get a certificate, but this requires actual dates.
Many thanks

John Hill

  Hi John ......

No is the simple answer. Freebmd only lists the details for that quarter not exact dates.
You can apply without having actual marriage date by appling online via

    www.gro.gov.uk

cost online £7 per cert. If you go to local office the ref. vol 1a page 1086 means nothing and they would need dates.

Have a look at the web site I gave above I do all mine that way. Can take up to 14 days to get cert back.
