Did they marry in Leicestershire?
« on: Monday 02 February 09 15:38 GMT (UK) »
I am having problems finding the mother and grandmother of my ancestor Hannah BONNER, who was born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

Hannah's parents were Robert BONNER & Hester and her grandparents (Robert's parents) were Joseph BONNER & Abigail.   Both couples lived in Nuneaton and had their children baptised at St. Nicholas Church there but they seem to have married elsewhere.   Requests for help on the Warwickshire boards have so far drawn a blank.

So, I'm just wondering if Hester and/or Abigail might have come from over the border in Leicestershire as it isn't that far from Nuneaton.   Robert & Hester's children were baptised from 1803 onwards and Joseph & Abigail's children were baptised from 1747 onwards.

Any help would be very gratefully received.

Hi Diane,
Not really answering your question but there is a Joseph Bonner named in the Chilvers Coton (now part of Nuneaton) 1781 census. he was aged 17 a batchelor and a ribbon weaver. There is also a Ann Bonner aged 76 a widow. No indication to say whether they were related.

Hi Diana,

Thought I'd check Nottinghamshire for you; just in case. Nothing there, I'm afraid.

Hi loanne & willow145

What a relief to finally get a reply - and then 2 on the same day!

loanne, I didn't know there was a census as early as 1781.   Joseph age 17 is too young to be the man I'm looking for, but the information is very welcome nevertheless.   He and Ann will most likely fit into the family somewhere.   I'll have a good look at my notes in a minute to try to place them.

willow145, I hadn't thought about Nottingham, so thank you for checking it for me.   Even a negative result is progress of a sort!

Thank you both very much indeed for taking the trouble on my behalf.
