My great grandfather owned the Tow Law Yeast Co and I would be really pleased if anyone can give me any information on this company as unfortunately we do not have any records.

Hi Marniemo

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

What was your grandfather's name?
There is a Tow Law Deerness and District History Society which may be able to help
http://www.historysociety.org.uk/
and a Tow Law community site with a family history board

Thanks for the prompt reply Barbara I realised I forgot to put down the great grandfather's name sheesh where is my head this morning.  His name was Thomas Moses and now that Ive spoken to my dad on the phone he's seen standing in front of his van with his brother William.  He lived in Bridge Street at the time.

Thank you Emily and Joseph, the answer is yes! this is my family, it could be that this Thomas is the son of the Thomas that works/owns the United Yeast Co.

This Thomas is my great grandfather, so it would make the previous Thomas is my great great grandfather - sorry about the confusion, The Thomas in question was born circa 1820 and in 1901 was 80 he died shortly after that.

Not shown on the 1901 census is my grandfather and his brother (because they were born after that) Harold and Wilf respectively.

My gt gt grandfather is shown as living with a Margaret Moses who he has down as a servant !! ?? Were trying to find out if she is a member of the family or not as there are two branches of Moses in Tow Law!

Thank you so much for the info.

Do you have all the census information then or would you like any lookups for the family to help sort out the relationships?

Quite often members of the family were listed as servants, housekeepers, etc
