Many thanks Fue isn't it amazing how wide the road was when you consider the type of transport around then did they hold a market down the middle do you think?
Manythanks for the link I doubt they ever thought people in 2009 would be a bit interested in their pub how wrong they were

Hi Trees,

Yes the road is quite wide in the picture and further on it is even wider because it held large sheep/wool markets (scroll through the pictures on the link and you will be able to see one of the sheep markets :) )

( I'm off now to see if I can place your pub on the high street ;) )

I posted your query on the FB Brackley Memories site, very helpful.  If you look at Right Angles website (Art shop in Brackley) you will see a photo of the Flying Horse pub in 1870.  It is on the right hand side of the picture with a sign over.  It was in old part of Brackley on the main road opposite what is now the Chip Shop.  HTH
