I have hit brickwall with regards to my ancestor charles william barnett.
1871 census states he was born in london, st james, city in 1835.
i cannot find him in the 1841/51/61 census and have searched all the local parish records. Could he have been born in the workhouse. 1871 census shows him as a visitor in kent, his wife is esther hendrie, he has a daughter esther ann barnett aged 10 born marylebone i can find no trace of her in the records. i can trace him and his family from 1871 to his death. i have been stuck for a couple of years can anyone please help me.

Hi Nashy,

Not exactly what you were looking for but I'm wondering if this could be little Esther Ann in 1861:

RG9/68 57 29
St Marylebone, Middlesex
Foley Street

Esther Jones, head, mar, 22, Dressmaker, b. Mddx Norton Foleate(?)
Esther A, dau, 7 months, b. Marylebone
Ann Wellman, lodger, unm, 32, Dressmaker, b. Surrey Christchurch

I'm wondering especially because Esther Barnett's birth place in 1881 looks very much like Norton Folgate!

Do you know when Charles and Esther married at all?

Just checked what you said about Esther being called Hendrie.

There's a possible marriage Charles William Barnett / Esther Hendry in 1880 (better late than never ;D) - what does the certificate say about their fathers?

Doesn't the marriage cert name the fathers at all then?

Were Charles and Esther shown as bachelor and spinster on the cert?

hi,
marriage certificate shows them as bachelor and spinster of full age,
fathers name surname and profession show dead.
