As I understand it he wouldn't have had to convert to Catholicism - but he would probably have had to undertake to bring up the children as Catholics - but as I wrote before it is a long shot.

Absolutley correct my wife was Anglican I was Catholic, we were the very first couple to be married in the church

  One furthur snippet of info,  in the 1959 and 1960 Telephone directories Harold Bromet was living at , 
Holmlea,   Portsmouth Road,   Esher  Surrey.
I don't know if this is of any interest.

Many thanks for this; I didn't know before, that there had been another change of address, so yes, that is interesting.
I've sent off for the marriage certificate, so here's hoping it will arrive before too many weeks go past! (Am looking forward to the new series of 'WHo do you think you are' later this evening...)

PS Will post here again if it turns out that Harold did in fact convert to catholicism, I'm still waiting to hear from my cousin in Ireland.
