Cecil Lang Trevor
« on: Wednesday 28 January 09 03:22 GMT (UK) »
Still on the hunt for Cecil Lang Trevor born 5th April 1893-his birth is not registered in NSW or VIc but his mothers brother lived in SA for a while so may be he was registered there. SA does not seem to have the same on line services as NSW and VIC. Can someone suggest where I might start looking.

Ceil Lang Trevor born to Gertrude Elizabeth Carrick Trevor can find no marriage deatils either. Father variously listed as John, Geoffery, Edward or Richard.

To save duplicate searching

Eryka the following info from one of the transcription agents web sites may be helpful -

Some births were not registered. There are many reasons for this. Some illegitimate births were not registered, but many were. There was a 6 month time limit to register events. Sometimes parents forgot, or couldn't get to town. There was no provision in the law for late registrations, so if the 6 months had passed since the birth, then it could not be registered. This did not change until after the turn of the century.  c1935 I think.

Hi Eryka

I reread the first thread (have to admit I don't remember posting on it - but I did) which was interesting but didn't get me alot further in looking for Cecil.

As you see from Dee's answer SA has no record.

I went looking for the WWI unit as I was wondering about his age. Men lied about their ages on war records - for various reasons - and  they were very rarely checked in either WWI or WWII. They usually gave the correct day/month - it was the year that was altered.

He doesn't seem to have the name Lang on the WWI record. (On there as Cecil Trevor mother Mrs G Trevor) On 29 Dec 1914 he lists his age as 24, which would give a birth year of 1890. The following day he says his age is 21 years and 10 months?? giving birth Feb  1893.  On 21st February 1917 he is Cecil Lang Trevor and gives his age as 25 years 10 months -  which gives a birth month of April/May and year of 1891.

I'm not sure if this is relevant or if you checked it before. It leads me back to my original thought - was he born on board a vessel or even in the UK. I think I read his mother arrived here 1890.

The best I see in England is a Cecil Lang registered Dec Qtr 1889 Wandsworth - no Cecil Carrick or Trevor  :(  (Could probably check for this one remaining in England on the census)  There is also a birth in NSW Cecil R Trevor parents James and Mary born 1890

You have been searching for awhile - I am not very good at "looking outside the square"  but perhaps some others may come up with some different ideas. I hope you eventually find him

This link has Cecil's mother marrying in 1882 in Australia
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,23236.0.html

Eryka has been searching for some time and not only on rootschat, - a chatter found quite a lot of info on the web - on the linked thread

This suggestion was made on the linked long thread....link is on reply#s above.

There is another avenue you could explore and that is the registration of medical doctors for the 1890's for NSW.

Did you find anything about Cecil's father, who was noted on one document as a doctor?

Hopefully fresh eyes may see something we have missed.

Cheers

There would seem to be many different dates in the family Cando (incl for the birth of  Cecil) - I read this  one

His mother is listed as coming to Australia in 1890. I have her birth as 1860.

It is a mystery and I am sure any suggestions would be worth checking. I doubt I would have the perserverance of Eryka so I do hope she is rewarded with a find.
