JONES, James & Elizabeth, Streatham, Surrey
« on: Wednesday 28 January 09 01:51 GMT (UK) »
Hello to all!  Newbie here hoping to extend my family tree prior to 1791....
Here is what I know:

My 4x great-grandfather, Albert Nutting Jones (b. 1826, Streatham, Surrey)
     m. Mary Monington (b. 1823, St. Pancras, Middlesex) in 1848 at St. Pancras
     Church, Middlesex.

Albert's marriage certificate lists father as James but deceased prior to
this marriage.  Arabella stood in for him at this wedding.

He was the son on James Jones and Elizabeth (unknown, married
between 1820 and 1824), and brother to these children:
Charles, b. 1825, unknown where born
Arabella Cristiana, b. 1828, Streatham, Surrey
             Elizabeth, b. 1831, Streatham, Surrey
Fanny, b. 1834, St. Leonard, Shoreditch
             Mark, b. 1836, Streatham, Surrey

I have been able to find baptismal records from Rootsweb BMD/GRO and the LDS site, familysearch.org for all above except for Charles.

My quest is to find out further information about James as well as Elizabeth's name.  We can find James & Elizabeth on the 1841 England Census at Fore Street, Whitechapel. James is 50 and Elizabeth 40 with children; Charles, Albert, Annabella, Elizabeth & Fanny.

I am aware that finding out Elizabeth's name would be almost impossible, even with actual baptismal papers.  Any other ideas come to mind?  Any facility I can write to?
Any direction is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I saw your message about Albert Nutting Jones.  He is my 2xgreat grandfather
through his oldest daughter Mary Jane Jones.  Thankgoodness for his
distinctive middle name!  If you are descended from his oldest son who
travelled to the US in the 1880s there are two researchers, one on the east
coast and one on the west who have done a lot of work.

If only James had lived until the 1851 census it would have made it so much
easier to track him.  When I was new to this I did not bother to try for Jane
Jones since I thought that would be impossible to trace.

Jane Jones married Robert Chard on 25 December 1870 and you can trace her
through the UK census from her birth in 1851 to the 1901 census. She died in 1908.

Her daughter, Rosina Louise, was my grandmother.  Her daughter, Rosina
Elizabeth Aslen, was my mother.

I see you posted in January and I only found it today.  I hope you have had
other responses.  I would really like to hear what you have been able to
discover and I have more information to share with you.

Best wishes  and Happy Hunting,

Anne

Anne:

Thank you very much for your rely and all I can say is WOW!!!!   :-*
I read your email early this morning and it has taken me all day to calm my excitement in order to respond!  Thank you!

Yes, I am a direct descendant from Albert James, b. 1849, d. 1887.
His son, William Henry had Norman Henry (my grandfather), had William Henry Jones (my dad), named after his grandfather.  There are only 3 girls in our family.

       James Jones m. Elizabeth (?)
son: Albert Nutting Jones m. Mary Monington
son: Albert James Jones m. Jane Hindley
son: William Henry Jones m. Maria Augusta Munro
son: Norman Henry Jones m. Reba Laudermilch
son: William Henry Jones m. Kathleen Murphy
daughter: Debra Jones m. John Strezenec
                                                daughter: Sharon Jones Marco (div)
                                                daughter: Jennifer Jones (div)

We have confirmed the line through marriage certificates from England so we know we are on the right track.  My grandfather Norman's siblings were all over the country - California, Florida, New York, etc. and he wasn't overly close with all.  I know Norman was very close to his brother Albert in California.

My sister Jennifer and I have been researching for about 2 years on this line - my dad had written us a quick family tree and we were motivated.  It had been done on a whim and we are hooked!  The chart is in his handwriting and will be an heirloom for the family album.  Besides being very, very helpful in our searches.

We have been able to touch base with descendants Mary Monington, wife of Albert Nutting, as well as the Munro line.  The Hindley line has been slow in researching.  The Munro line has been traced back to the early 1600's!

So true about Albert having an unusual name and it would have been easier had James lived passed the census date.  We have been stumped with Elizabeth's name - even with microfilms  and knowing that her maiden name would not be readily available.  Thank goodness for websites like these - they have been priceless!

Jennifer and I would love to hear and share what we have . Please email me  or Jennifer Moderator comment: e-mail address removed to prevent spamming and other abuse.  Please use the personal message system to exchange e-mail addresses.  Thank you directly so we can swap stories and the family tree we have on-line.  I am curious of the researchers you mentioned  -   guess I need to get more binders!

Have a great day and I hope to hear from you soon!

I am writing to you through the Roots Chat line.  I have wrtitten to you directly
to your personal e-mail address and I have not received a reply.  If you do not
wish to persue the connection that's OK but one of the advice pages suggests
that we should persevere and write again just in case the first message has
gone astray.  So this is what I am doing.

I believe that I have discovered Albert Nutting's  sister through the later censuses,
have you found this too? Fanny is the one I mean.

I am also interested in Mary Monington.  I have been thinking about having a DNA
test done sometime and at present she is the farthest back on my female line that
I have.

I hope you and your sister Jennifer are having a fun time with your research and
that you are getting great results.  Regards, Anne

I saw your reply to this post and was astonished to find answers to many questions I have regarding my ancestry. Rosina Louise was also my grandmother so I guess you are my first cousin this is really strange as I didn't know you existed. I am the daughter of Lawrence Aslen. I see the post was 4 years ago so I hope you are still a member I would love to get in contact.
