Pullen and Greening marriage/census
« on: Thursday 10 February 05 22:58 GMT (UK) »
I have a christening record of my GG Grand Mother at St Mary Redcliffe in 1849 giving her parents as James Pullen and Sarah Greening
The 1871 census shows her having younger siblings but no older ones so I guess they married around that date
the 1871 census suggests they were both born about 1821, him in 'Hensbury' and her in 'Hinxhay'
I would be grateful if anyone can find a marriage record or any mention in the 1841 or 1851 censuses (by 1861 they seem to have moved to South Wales)
thanks
Teresa

Great, thanks
Frenchay makes much more sense
Agnes married the son of a publican (from Wiltshire) and had my mum's 'Welsh' grandfather
a couple of generations later we were born midway between Henbury and Frenchay
I don't know which my mum will take harder all that English blood or the trading in alcohol  ::)

no, she had no idea, her dad died when she was quite young but she was evacuated to his chapel attending family during the war and grew up convinced of her Welshness
As we grew up she would support Wales for the rugby etc. whilst my dad, sister and myself would be true Bristolians ignoring any drops of Welsh blood and supporting England
by my reckoning she is only 5/16 Welsh - I wonder what she'll make of that

Hello Theresa
My name is Greening. If you go to the Winterbourne Family History Online web site you will find loads of stuff on the Greenings. It includes all the Census records and all the parish registers. Somebody has done a fantastuic job on transcribing them all. Using that web site I have traced the Greening family back to 1777. As you say they moved to Wales sometime in the 1860's. My father was born in Wales and always thought that he was Welsh. However my research has shown that he did have some Welsh blood in him but also a lot of English.
Regards
Peter
