First name search sounds quite helpful - maybe losing the comma trick wasn't deliberate and just a by-product of making last name not compulsory...  :)
McBride (Monaghan, Manchester), Derbyshire (Bollington,Cheshire), Knight (Newcastle,Staffs), Smith (Chorley, Lancs & Ireland), Tipladay (Manchester & Yorkshire) ,Steadman (Madeley,Shropshire), Steele (Manchester,Glasgow), Parkinson (Wigan, Lancashire), Lovatt, Cornes & Turner (Staffs) Stott (Oldham, Lancs). All ended up Ardwick, Manchester

It does still work - put the comma in the 'Census reference' section at the bottom of the advanced search page.
I just tested it  ;D

Has anyone found any revelations about their own ancestors on the 1911 census.

LOL yeah!

Uncle Ernest happily living in Plymouth with his wife Nellie ................ that no one knew existed

LOL my great grandad put down the real name of ONE of his children, all the rest got their abbreviated names!
(and one got a name totaly different to her own!)

Seriously unfair of him to make it harder for me to find them especially as their surname is Smith!!!!!

Gaille

Manchester – Bate(s) / Bebbington / Coppock or Coppart / Evans / Mitchell / Prince / Smith

Cheshire Latchford – Bibby / Savage / Smith.
Cheshire Macclesfield,  Bollington & Rainow – Childs / Flint / Mc'rea
Cheshire Crewe – Bate(s) / Bebbington
Shropshire Wellington, Wobwell – Smith
Walsall Midds – Smith
Norfolk - Childs / Hanwell / Smith

Also looking for:
Mc'Rea/McCrea – Ireland to Cheshire

And
any relatives of Margaret Bibby married to Thomas Smith all over country

If you read the entire thread, it is explained how it was done.  Unfortunately, because of changes made by FindMyPast, the method no longer works.

Nick, please see my reply 100 on the previous page. The 'old' method does still work, you simply put the comma in the 'census reference' panel rather than in the surname panel.
