Hi Erika,

The details of James Wellington/Mary Ann Eddo are from James' death certificate, as registered by his widow Martha. Therefore the details are subject to how well Martha knew her in-laws and their details.

According to their son William's birth certificate (1890 in Dunbar), James and Martha married 6th July 1874 in Gibraltar. This marriage certificate could be registered in the GRO Overseas records for the time, and would give James' father's name along with Martha's.

:D

Think I've found his parents' marriage ... The "o" I was seeing was actually an "s". ::)

And on the same page, Mary Ann Edds.

Me again. ;D

You'll be glad to know Mary Add Edds died in Scotland too, so her parents (if known) will be on her death certificate. If you are still having problems accessing ScotlandsPeople, let me know and I will get the details for you. :)

Mary Ann Wellington, nee Edds, d. 1902 in Dumfries

Great info Hume. Thanks once again for your efforts. You have also solved a problem regarding Bertha who was my grandmothers sister. We could not find her married name so it was obviously Pagan.Your details about the Edds family have allowed us to get more clues in our ancestry charts so that is fantastic. It is evident that the Dawlish and Newton Abbott areas feature strongly with both families too.Any ideas whether I can get any records online from St Gregory's Dawlish, as I've noted thats where all of Henry Wellingtons siblings were christened.Have tried a general search but not having much luck.Cheers . Erika.

Hi Erika,

Not sure where you will get those records online. You may want to try the Devon board here on RC: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,10.0.html Someone is sure to know where to find them. :)

Erika, I have info on James Henry Wellington (b. 1875) if you're still interested -- he was my maternal grandfather. -- Alan
