Crook family
« on: Saturday 24 January 09 19:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi to all,

I have just joined this site, it looks brill,  but I have to confess a little daunting.  Anyways here goes - I am researching my family tree and am looking for any information concerning the Crook family.  They were living in St. Anne Soho, London in 1881, in particular I am trying to find a marriage certificate for Sarah and William.  They were my Great Great Grandparents, one daughter, Annie, is mentioned in connection with the Jack the Ripper stories, the other, Alice, is my Great Grandmother.
I have searched all the usual channels and so far no joy. I just feel that as they had gone to the trouble getting their children christened etc that they would have been married.  A long shot I know, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed! :)  Thank you.

Hello and welcome to Rootschat.  :)

The first thing to do is to post the full reference and family details as on the 1881 census, then that gives us something solid  to go on.

Hi both and welcome to RootsChat Historygirl  :)

The 1881 census shows Sarah born in Scotland,so maybe they were married there? 1871* has her birth place Berwick on Tweed. Do you know her maiden name at all - off one of the children's birth certificates, maybe?  :)

Hi and many thanks for taking time out to help.  I have got the census info for them - but the marriage certificate is proving hard to find.  I will keep hunting though!  Thanks again. :)

So - have you checked marriages in Scotland and do you know Annie's maiden name, Historygirl?  :)

Hi - sorry for the delay in getting back to you, lots going on at the moment.  Sarah's maiden name is Dryden.  I doubt if they got married in Scotland.  William seems to move from Eaton (Windsor) to London.  I have found no trace of him anywhere else. Its a mystery, but I will keep digging!!
