HARRISON Malton
« on: Saturday 24 January 09 13:37 GMT (UK) »
I am researching the family my uncle married into.  He was James Fletcher GRAYDON Born Trimdon 1915.

He married Freda HARRISON around 1937 in Malton and had children Ian and Pearl.  I have found Freda's parents on FREE BMD in March 1913 as Henry E HARRISON and ? MATTHEWS.

I tried to get in touch with my cousins as I noticed my Aunt had died in Malton in 2005.  There was no reply to my lettter to them via the undertakers.

Is there anyone who could find out the ? MATTHEWS on free BMD as I am not clever enough? The surname BARTINDALE was mentioned in the obituary too.

Had another look and see that Henry E Harrison is possibly Freda's brother born Mar 1913 and she was born Jun 1914 there is a further possible brother George 1917.

There is a marriage for Robert Harrison and Maud Matthews in Malton Sep 1905 9d 705.  These appear to be the only two with this reference so looks like they married each other.

P.S. From Yorkshire BMD Robert and Maud were married at St Michael New Malton.

Thank you for your help.  I have lost some of my notes, and I don't know a great deal about Freda's family.  I have found it on Free BMD using Malton as a place to search, but do have the burials from Norton/Malton cemetary  and St Leonards and St Peters Monumental inscriptions.  I also have the 1881 Census which is too far back.

I was presuming that the marriage might be correct because I had found Freda's brother Henry!!

Noreen,

Do you happen to know where Freda and James married?  If it was Malton the Registers will be at the Borthwick.  I would be happy to look up the entry for you next time I am there which would confirm whether Robert was her father.

I wrote to the undertaker when Freda died hoping to contact my cousins Ian and Pearl.  They obviously didn't want to know me.  I do remember there was a mention of someone whose unusual  surname began with 'B'.  I have just found a marriage on Free BMD in Malton 1910 Robert HARRISON to Annie BROCKLESS!!

I'll start with the Marriage Certificate of my Uncle James GRAYDON to Freda HARRISON first.

Then that one next if it is right father.  If I get the bus from Huntington the 'The Bortwick' might I find you there sometimes.

Thank you for your very kind help.

Hello Noreen,
I was idly searching the web when I typed in the name of someone who's always been very much in my heart, Kate Freda Graydon (our nick name for her was Ging). You might have found out all you want to know, but if you haven't I might be able to fill you in a little and certainly have a few lovely old photographs of her, even one of her as a baby on her mother's knee. I'm also still in touch with her daughter Pearl and Grandchildren in and around Malton Debbie and Mark.
Best wishes,
Kate

I would bevery interested in knowing more about my cousin Pearl, Aunty Freda and Ian if possibe.  My mother was a friend of Freda and sent a Christmas Card every year, which I wrote for her.  Mum had Macula degeneration.

I noticed that the Duggleby twins Glynis and Jayne have been mentioned in the paper too about Golf.

Freda was a lovely woman and lived in Norton or Malton for nearly all her life. She loved a laugh and was very loving to us. She came to work for my mother when we were very small (I think when I was two weeks old, I'm 44 now). I think her husband died shortly after she came to be with us. When we moved from Yorkshire to West Sussex she came to be with us for part of the year, every year and I really came to look upon her as my other mother. She was really there for us in many ways and I think of her often. I think she pretty much lost touch with Ian (though I think he still lived in Yorkshire) and he died a few years before she did, which was very sad. Pearl married Norman Banks who is a builder and they live just outside Malton; I haven't seen them since the funeral which is a bit dreadful, but I rarely come to Yorkshire these days.
I can't figure out how to attach a photograh, but if I do I'll send you some of Ging.
