O'Connor - The Green, Cashel
« on: Saturday 24 January 09 06:30 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am researching my O'Connor family, but this is as far-back as I can get. Can anyone help?

The 1911 census shows the family living at the Green, Cashel.
Patrick Connors b. 1860, a retired postman.
Wife Margeret b.1865, maiden name Sullivan.
They have 9 children........Patrick b. 1891, a grocer........Mary 1894.......my G-Grandfather James 1895 ...........John 1896........Tom 1897...........Josephine 1899......William 1900........Kathleen 1902.......Margeret 1904.

James left Ireland for England around 1918 ? He married and settled in Atherstone, Warwickshire and had 6 children.
I would dearly love to find-out more about my family-tie to Ireland.

Best wishes,
Carol Ann

listed in Slaters Commercial Directory of 1894 in the Cashel section

Thomas O'Connor, grocer &c. Main st

the postmaster is listed as Hubert J.Cahill, but no other postal workers are mentioned...

the other Connor/Connors listed include

James Connor, cooper, Canopy street
Willam Connor, cooper, Bohermoor st

I dont see any Sullivans listed..

Hello Shane and many thanks for your reply, I really appreciate you taking the time to look for me.

The Thomas O'Connor in the 1894 census is too early for me, my grocer is Patrick, who was 19 yrs old in 1911.

Even though the census shows the family living at the Green, Cashel in 1911, maybe I need to look elsewhere  before that date. I cannot believe how difficult it has been to find any trace of this family.

Once again, many thanks to you for your help.
Best wishes, Carol Ann

There were 2  Connors families living in the Green in Cashel in 1889 according to Bassett:

James Connors, Cattle Dealer.
Thomas Connors, Cattle Dealer.

Also listed in other parts of Cashel:
Michael Connors, Cattle Dealer.

Residents and Farmers:
Michael Connors, Rathcowan.
Thomas Connors, Boherlahan.

James Connors and Michael Connors are listed as Town Commissioners.

Whether any of them are connected to you I cannot say. Good luck with your search.

Checked the Irish civil registration index at Family search.org searched from 1890-1899 http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#surname=O'Connor;p=1;givenName=Patrick;searchType=standard;collectionId=1408347;birthPlace=Tipperary%2C%20Ireland;birthPlaceId=8003979

It is shows a birth records for a Patrick Connor in 1892 but in Nenagh Registration District  Reference is  1892 Jul- Sep vol 3 page 403
In the Cashel district birth registered of a Patrick Connor in 1896 (this may be too late for your Patrick) Ref April- June 1896 Vol 3 page 343.

It could be worthwhile checking these out.  These certs can be got from the General Register Office Roscommon Site www.groireland.ie
Hope this is of use

To both Annclare and Rody, many thanks for taking the time to help me with my O'Connor family.

I live in Western Australia and all my research to date, has been through Ancestry.com, which is great but limited at times. Finding this site is just great, I am hoping that now I will be able to push a bit further ahead with my research.

With many thanks and best wishes,
Carol Ann

Hello Carol ann, Im Tiim O'Connor and my grandad was Mathew Connors from Knockavilla just outside Cashel and his brothers and sisters were also Mary,John,William, Kathleen,Margeret. I wonder if there is a link, he was born around 1870. Hope you get the message, Tim
