Franklin,

Let's hope someone is this area can make a connection with your Davisons.

In the meantime you could via message boards and the internet attempt to get bits of info on te family.

For example, below  is a record which is a candidate for your Martin Davison..i.e

Hello Franklin,
This is probably your family in the1881 census;
County Durham, Great Lumley, No20 Seventh pit Woodhouse
Martin Davidson Head married 37 Coal miner b Durham Gt Lumley
Mary wife 35                                                            ditto
William 14 letter carrier                                            ditto
Hannah 12 scholar                                                   ditto
Joseph R 10 scholar                                                 ditto
John 7                                                                      ditto
Annie 5                                                                    ditto
Andrew 2                                                                 ditto
With or without the d can make a great difference in looking up the census. The enumerators sometimes used their own spelling.

The family are living in the same house in 1871 when Joseph R is 2 months old, the name is spelt Davison and the village is given as 6th pit. 6th pit was the last one in Lumley colliery to be closed in 1966 so 7th was probably a mistake. The latest pit to be sunk that I know of was just across the river on the Chester le St side in 1860.
Hope this is some use
Peter
