Hi halfasheep,

Like you I managed to find my Evans family using the address facility but they are difficult searches otherwise. ::)

My ggrandfather acquired a middle initial (D) in the1901, well at least I say that having never found his birth certificate... Evan Evans
In the 1911 he decided to enter his full name Evan David Evans, but I thought clicking variants would have covered that. All the children were called by their second names and although I was aware of my dad's first name I still struggled to find him. I expected hundreds of Evan Evans's to come up ???

I thought it was me when I couldn't find anyone...I am working on less is better now by using just the name.

Hmm. Well I've had mixed results really!

Am slightly confused about how someone can be Alice Nash (dau) in 1901 and then Alic Nash (son - & carpentering app!) by 1911.

Someone was confused.

Had hoped it would help me through a brick wall with Bridget Fitzgerald but unfortunately not.

Rachel, I had one like that in earlier years, Gwen daughter aged 2, was Gwilym son aged 12,  10 years later. Married with a son called Gwilym of his own in 1911. I've put it down to enumerator error for the daughter bit.

Just back from hols...to find that Wales has now gone 'live'.

But so far... :o its been a total disappointment for me :'( :'(

I've found my Grandfather, William James Wilson, living at 93 St Helen's Road with my Grandmother & five of their sons, - but absolutely nothing new!! He still gives his place of birth as 'Manchester, Lancs.' & he's 51yrs in 1911, (41 in 1901) & so according to the 'Family Tree' Census calculator that gives him a DOB of approx April 1859 to March 1860...

Although on his Marriage Cert, in June 1893...he's 32yrs old.

However, according to Free BMD, the only likely candidates are a James William Wilson born Manchester July/Aug/Sept Quarter 1859 or a William James Wilson born Liverpool Jan/Feb/March Quarter 1860...

And I was so hoping that he might have a Manchester rellie staying on Census night, - so that I had something to go on!!

Incidentally, there were 4 errors on the family transcript page for this entry!! I've reported them now & so hopefully they will be ammended.

Romilly.

Hi Romilly,
Glad you found him on the 1911 !  I am still struggling with quite a few of mine, just cannot find them I've tried absolutely everything, I am now cross eyed and exhausted!  Every spare minute I'm back trying again it's so frustrating..... never mind, maybe when someone else has them on subscription i'll be able to find them!

Do you have to buy credits before searching for people? because Ive been on the 1911 site a few times and searched for a few people I know were about then and it says "we found no records for this search" everytime.  ???

Charles, you can search without buying credits.  Then when you buy credits you can click on 'last search results' or something like that and it takes you to the results you wanted. Obviously you'd need to log in before doing anything I think but its free to register.

I've had hardly any luck at all, am sooo disappointed.  Wish we could search like on Ancestry.

:(  oh dear.  Try wider search terms, like a year of birth then click on 5 to give it a 5 year estimation.  Or leave the county you expect them to be in blank, and just give birthplace?  No-one seems really lucky with it, sadly.
