Hannah Finch
« on: Thursday 22 January 09 00:04 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction to get some information on the birth or baptism of Hannah Finch in Sedgely in 1811?

I know she was married to William Whitehouse in Sedgely in 1836 and I can find her on on subsequent censuses, but can find no record of her birth.

This is particularly frustrating as my husband's middle name is Finch - presumably after her or some other Finch relative!!

Thanks

Looking at the ages of the children in 1841 -was William married before?

Are all the children really Whitehouse? -or was Hannah previously married -so her maiden name is not Finch???

Suz

Thornhill, Cresswell, Sisson, Harriman, Cripps, Eyre, Walter, Marson, Battison, Holmes, Bailey, Hardman, Fairhurst Noon-mainly in Derbys/Notts-but also Northampton, Oxford, Leics, Lancs-England

I think you may be looking at the wrong family in 1841.-there is another Hannah & William Whitehouse!

Hannah was definately a Finch when she was married - I have the marriage record and it also says spinster.  William is listed as a bachelor.

Their children were

Hannah b 1844
Mary b 1845
William b 1847
Samuel b 1849

Thanks for your reply!

Hiya Hatster

Welcome to Rootschat!

I guess you mean you have a copy of the parish record as it was pre-registration. Does it give her fathers name?

No - I have the information from familyhistoryonline - the transcribed record of marriage in 1836 - no fathers details though.

Hiya Hatster

It might be worth trying this site http://www.blackcountrygob.com/portal.php

Its a local site and someone might be able to do you a look up at the archive office when they are over there. If you ask them to look up the marriage as well it might contain some information that wasnt transcribed onto the other site

Good luck

Hiya I've just come across this post and I am looking into part of the same family (being a descendant of William Whitehouse and Jane Hipkins) and I have a website you may be interested in:  http://www.therobinsfamily.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=therobinsfamily&view=0&pid=1972&randi=151712806

However at present I am trying to get some of this straight as I am trying to work off the Whitehouse brother Brewery Wills, so please message me if the details are wrong or you would like to get in touch.

Unfortunately I can't help you out at present regarding Hannah Finch, but I can say the info you give does seem to match up with the information I already have.

Regards,

Natterjack

Thanks for that Natterjack, William b 1807 is definitely the same person as my William, my husbands ancestor. I have a medal he won for brewing at Princes End Brewery so there's no doubt there.  I have different parents though, James Whitehouse And Mary Harper. I may have been swayed by research that my father in law did though so I'll look at that further.  It's a long time since I did much research on this.  Would love to hear what information you have.
