Leighs in Taunton
« on: Wednesday 21 January 09 20:04 GMT (UK) »
I have determined that my Great Grand Father, Charles E Leigh was from Taunton, Sumerset.  He was born around 1830 and immigrated to the US in 1852 on the ship Elizabeth.  Looking for any information on birth or census records 1830 to 1852 that might provide additional about him and his parents.

at least two of the kids shown in 1841 were baptised in St Sidwells, Exeter - which reveals that Edwards middle name was Manley.

You can see these in the IGI - www.familysearch.org

sibling Charlotte (c1834, Culklompton) is a visitor in Yorkshire in 1851 ..

1851 - HO107/2377; Folio: 343; Page: 15 - North Allerton

Thomas Maunder 37  Head Surveyor of Taxes Devon, Honiton
Emma Maunder 33  Wife Cullompton
William Haine Maunder 4  nephew Honiton
Charlotte A Leigh 17  visitor Cullompton

Eleanor Garthwaite 19  servant

given the PoBs, I'd say she was related, even tho the enumerator has her simply as a visitor ?
