John Dignam / Julia Clinton - COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 21 January 09 00:55 GMT (UK) »
Some help needed with the above marriage.

John Dignam and his wife Julia Clinton had a son named Isaac born 1872 in Donabate Co. Dublin. I can find no trace of their marriage in North or South Co. Dublin.

Is there anyone here connected to this family?

Rody.

Have you been looking for a marriage shortly before Isaac's birth in 1872 in the marriage indexes?
I would guess that the marriage took place 1866 or earlier as IGI lists 6 children: Joseph (1866), Michael (1868), Richard (1870), Isaac (1872), Julia (1874), Alice (1875)- there could be others not in IGI or born before start of civil registration in 1864. See www.familysearch.org for details.
You don't mention the family's religion but civil registration of Catholic marriages began 1864 so if they were Catholic and married before 1864 they will not appear in the indexes.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Aghadowey,

Many thanks for your response. I had found the 6 children and am reasonably confident that
Joseph was the oldest. I have found the same 6 (baptisms) on IFHF before I got banned for not buying any credit. There were no earlier baptisms listed. I’m hoping that John and Julia were married some time after 1864 (both Catholic) but have not been able to find a marriage yet.

All the children were baptised in Donabate but on the 1911 Census I can find no Dignams (or variants) in Donabate. Joseph and Richard are in Balgriffin in 1911.

I’m guessing that Julia Clinton may have been from outside Dublin and the marriage took place in her home parish but I have no clues where to go with that.

I checked www.familysearch.org and found nothing there except USA census information.

Hopefullt someone else on RootsChat may have a connection to this family.

Rody.
