Just had Jane's birth certificate through and her father's name does in fact look more like Maw than Marr. Also, Ellen/Helen's surname is Maw and her maiden name is spelled as Waring, the same as the certificate I have for Thomas.

It looks like this has all tied in nicely and indicates, I'm probably on the right track. Just need to find George's parents and continue form there.

Thank you everyone for your help and input, it's been greatly appreciated.

Right.. So my nan's real mother died when she was 1, her name.. Helen Hill, formely Waring....

Part of the Harding and Waring family ??
Any connection ?

I don't thnk that there is any connection there I'm afraid. Helen/Ellen married into the Maw family and died under that name.
