Deed Poll name changes are in series J18 of the National Archives but don't seem to be online, aka searchable so will need to be checked there... you seem to have exact dates for the deed poll name change  how did you get those?

If I am reading your reply correctly, you want to make sure your Joseph is definately the son of the Barnett we've all found who is the son of Jacob and Rebecca? If so I think you need to bite the bullet and go for one of the naturalisation documents.

If money is tight and to don't want to risk it (the one I got was spot on their 10 pages, inclusive for digital records) you can email the National archives first with all the info, give them the reference I found and the one Deb did, plus all the other info you have and they will advise you on the best way to go, they will tell you how many documents/pages there are and you can go from there...

Hi,
Sorry to have taken so long, we've only just got back to normal!
I've a photocopy of the deed poll where Joseph changes his name to Bennett the 9/10/1945 his then address was given as 40 Sutton Court Rd Chiswick, in the county of London, costing Clerk a natural born British subject.
I also have the copy of birth certificate issued for the purpose of Friendly Societies act, registration district Mile End old town, 1912 Birth in the sub district of Mile Old Town South Western, London profession of father (Barnett) given as walking stick maker (journeyman) living at 11 Ernest st.

Hi Guys :)

okay info from other thread

1901 RG13/300 34 12
London
Rebecca Cracowski mar 35 charwoman b Poland
BARNETT 13 b Poland..... he marries Fanny Karpin
leah 10
Annie 8
Woolf 7 ...think he dies young
Jane 5

1891 RG12/276 36 22
Spitalfields
Jacob Cracouski 23 TAILOR
Rebecca 24
Barnet 3
Leah 9 months b Spitalfields

1911
Hackney
Crackowski , Barnet , male, b 1888, 23

By 1911 Barnet is in Hackney , No sign of Fanny (nee Karpin) or Samuel b Poland ... Fanny has JOSEPH in mar q 1912 in England.
Joseph b 1912 is the one who changed their surname and married Rose King

so we have
Jacob the tailor = Rebecca ??
They have Barnet in 1888 in Poland
Barnett marries Fanny Karpin has children in Poland ...by 1911 he is in UK
they have Joseph 1912 = Rosa King

deb ...hoping this is correct  :-\

Blimey ... this is my family!!!

Rebecca Cracowski was married to Jacob.  He left her, so the story goes, to try his luck in the States.  Rebecca died in 1908 aged 41, having been ill for 2 years (I have the death cert).  Her children were placed in an orphanage in South Norwood.  In 1920 Jacob Cracowski is listed as "deceased" on his daughter, Annie's, marriage certificate.  Rebecca Cracowski is buried in a Jewish cemetery in Manor Park (photos available).

The children are Barnett (I have a wonderful photo of him), Lily, Annie (my grandmother), Woolfie (who my father knew well ... complete with family!!) and Janey/Jenny/Ginny (she was known as Aunt Janey).  I have lots of photos of this family that I'm more than happy to share.  Barnett, as far as I am aware, married in a church in the Manchester/Stockport area and had two daughters.

Thanks for the warm welcome.  This hasn't been the easiest of surnames to research!!

Btw, for those searching the Cracowski/Krakofsky/Krakowski and variants surname, my Dad said that when the family came to this country they could not speak English and were given the surname "Cracowski" to show that they had come from Cracow.

Hi everyone,
This is brilliant news! Funny enough I've already had contact with Carol, we concluded that they were't the same family, very intiguing! I'll have to through my correspondence to remember all the details.
My beautiful grandaughter has successfully hidden my glasses, so bear with me while I'm trying to read with a very old pair of spectacles!
Jacob left Rebeccah, no wonder it was hard to work out, well done!
Be back later.

Do you know the names of Barnett's children?  As far as I am aware, he had two daughters, Joyce born 1920 in Stockport and ?  Barnett died when Joyce was quite young.
