It could have been there before when I just had UK membership but I didn't see it!? I get so cranky with their new search system!!!

mum got it 'cos we are trying to find where my gran disappeared to!

...so even though it's not them coming into the UK, it's interesting to know they went over there for a while and Jacob must have gone before them?

Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't been on here these last few days we were hit by gale force winds, I've no electricity or water, my son has put his generator on so I can use my computer for a short while.
I never realized the Krakofsky's went to Philadelphia how can I be sure if its the same family?
Thanks to everyone who has helped me search.
Hope to find Joseph/Yosssel deed poll name change to Bennett, to know for sure who the grandparents were.
Better turn the generator off.

if Samuel was b. 1909 Warsaw and then Joseph was born in 1912 England they obviously came to the UK between these times
Joe was natuarlised in 1919 (see Jendors reply) at which point they were in Manchester
i would think that this document would be useful

have you searched under the variant of Cracowski

Yes I have

Well, the names all tie up, dates of birth, being Russian (I know Polish comes in as well but!?)  passage from the UK, as someone who is very skeptical I'd be fairly convinced it was them, not 100% but close... Am trying to find Joe on an earlier boat... If it is your family Jacob must have been known as Joe at some point I suppose?

Sorry to hear of your troubles, I was without electric and hence gas/heating from yesterday morning until this afternoon because my meter went kranky, being a Sunday  they wouldn't send an engineer so had to wait and go by candle last night, you forget how much you rely on it! Hope you get it sorted soon.

Deed Poll name changes are in series J18 of the National Archives but don't seem to be online, aka searchable so will need to be checked there... you seem to have exact dates for the deed poll name change  how did you get those?

If I am reading your reply correctly, you want to make sure your Joseph is definately the son of the Barnett we've all found who is the son of Jacob and Rebecca? If so I think you need to bite the bullet and go for one of the naturalisation documents.

If money is tight and to don't want to risk it (the one I got was spot on their 10 pages, inclusive for digital records) you can email the National archives first with all the info, give them the reference I found and the one Deb did, plus all the other info you have and they will advise you on the best way to go, they will tell you how many documents/pages there are and you can go from there...

Thanks so much for all your help, I will try and get the naturalisation paper, as for the name change to Bennett, I know he changed his name to Bennett in 1945 as my kids father was born in the end of 1945 and he asked me if I'd prefer the name Krakofsky which I didn't to complicated to spell.
Well I'll have to hang on for a bit, once I have the electricity and telephone back on things will be so much easier, I've been told it'll be back on Sunday.
