Hi all

1911
Hackney
Crackowski , Barnet , male, b 1888, 23

deb

It seems that Barnet , the father was in England by 1911 ..see above. Maybe Fanny and Samuel came over later , as I cannot find them on the 1911 census.

I'm a bit confused too Deb, that's why I posted the info about Jacob the tailor as thought that was Barnets dad/Josephs grandfather ??? have I got it all confused?  ;D

it looks to me like
Joseph & Fanny married in Poland
Joseph came to the UK between 1909 and 1911 (Deb found on census)
Sometime after the 1911 census Joseph was joined by his wife fanny and elder children
with another son Joseph being born in 1912
maybe it is from this that Fannys maiden name became known
Jwendor seems to have found Josephs naturalisation in 1919 by that time they were residing in Manchester

maybe Movinghere.org will help with their immigration details
i think the naturalisation documents may yeild more clues to Joseph past

Hi Toni, the naturalisation papers are for Barnet

What's confused me is that another conversation is refered to in the first post and on that conversation there's a Barnet with parents Jacob and Rachel in the 1891 census and LadyLil has replied saying that Barnet is her G Grandfather...

I've probably just got the wrong end of the stick!  ??? ;D

Hi Guys :)

okay info from other thread

1901 RG13/300 34 12
London
Rebecca Cracowski mar 35 charwoman b Poland
BARNETT 13 b Poland..... he marries Fanny Karpin
leah 10
Annie 8
Woolf 7 ...think he dies young
Jane 5

1891 RG12/276 36 22
Spitalfields
Jacob Cracouski 23 TAILOR
Rebecca 24
Barnet 3
Leah 9 months b Spitalfields

1911
Hackney
Crackowski , Barnet , male, b 1888, 23

By 1911 Barnet is in Hackney , No sign of Fanny (nee Karpin) or Samuel b Poland ... Fanny has JOSEPH in mar q 1912 in England.
Joseph b 1912 is the one who changed their surname and married Rose King

so we have
Jacob the tailor = Rebecca ??
They have Barnet in 1888 in Poland
Barnett marries Fanny Karpin has children in Poland ...by 1911 he is in UK
they have Joseph 1912 = Rosa King

deb ...hoping this is correct  :-\
Travellers = Penfold, Orchard, James
Devon = Middleton,  Waterfield, Adams, Clark/e, Gould
Cornwall = Palmer, Carnarton, Slack/Smith. Morris/h
Wales, New Quay = James, Evans

where was Jacob born?

sorry i got confused with Joseph / Yosel and Barnet but if the naturalistaion papers are for Barne then these woul dbe worth getting.

Barnet was born poland but in England in 1891 & 1901 & 1911 but in betwixt these times he went back to poland where he seems to0 have married Fanny karpin and had children before returning to england Fanny seems to have come to England aftr the 1911 census but before Joseph was b. in Q2 1912

so i suggest looking at the Movinghere.org website to see if they have records of Barnets journerys and fannys passage into the UK

with regards to Rebecca & Jacob, where was Jacob born? Poland too?
maybe there is a marriage for them in England or in Poland but they seem to have had their children in Poland to begin with and then in England so i would suggest they married in Poland
again movinghere might record their passage to England
and leahs birth cert in spitalfields would show Rebeccas maiden name

Jewsh, tailor, Polish wasn't there a distrcit in London where these type of people set up home?

I think it was Spitalfields and then Brick Lane.  Certainly there is a long history of textile work there - but whether it is more manufacturing cloth rather than making cloth into clothes, I couldn't say.

Golders Green is also historically a Jewish area (and coincedentally, it is in the Borough of Barnet.......!!)
