Look-up offer for Waterloo
« on: Tuesday 20 January 09 01:52 GMT (UK) »
I have a searchable database containing a great deal of detail on all 30,000 British Waterloo combatants. I'm happy to look up any names.

Regards
Martin

Hi Martin,
What a generous offer.

Wonder if you could take a looksee for a Henry LOCKWOOD born 1790

He married in 1810 Suffolk, but I have been unable to find any children for him until 1820.......wondered if he was out of the country, perhaps in the military...says she.....clutching at straws!

Hi Matin

I would be most grateful if you could lookup my third great grandfather, James Grant.

He was born abt 1789 in Urquhart, Inverness.  I believed he served from 1805 to 1835.

On return to UK he married in 1820, a French girl fom Cambrai (very Sharpish).  In 1841 Census he was noted as the Barracks Sargeant at St John's Wood Barracks.

He may have been in the 42nd foot

Kind regards

Dear Jonathan
There were 3 men named James Grant in the 42nd Foot at this time. One of these fought in the 1815 campaign in No.5 Company and was wounded at Quatre Bras (along with much of the regiment) two days before Waterloo.

Alas, at present I don't have any way of proving which James Grant this was - if he was your man from Urquhart or one of the other two.

Interestingly, there was a Malcolm Grant in Number 9 company, listed as from Urquhart, who was killed at Quatre Bras. A relative perhaps?

Sorry I cannot be more definitive.

Martin

Martin

Thank you for looking,  James Grant is quite a common name.

I have attached a document you may find interesting.

Thank you again

Hi Martin,  would appreciate a look-up for Waterloo for my 3gr.grandfather James BOLAND who served
with the 30th Regiment of Foot.  He served for whole of Peninsular war but not sure about Waterloo.
He later emigrated to NSW.   With thanks,  Jen

Hi Jen
I only have a Thomas Boland listed for the 30th at Waterloo. He was 38 years old at the time of the battle and was discharged 2 years later due to diseased corneas.

It's an unusual name so likely to be a relative?
