found only 2 george wallages in suffolk in 1841
one born in 1835 so obviously not him
the other one born 1801
1841
HO107/1039/6/65/20.
if you want the full entry for this george then i will post it here
that is assuming that he was in suffolk in 1841?

I wonder if the 1801 is my George
i think he died about 1846ish
because i find an Elizabeth Wallage widow in 1851 Census living with her son George

I think you may have to become a little flexible with this surname as you progress backwards - for instance Wallidge, Worledge.   I think your George Wallage originated - and was buried - in Poslingford which is the 1st village north of Clare.

The National Burial Index shows George WALLAGE  33 was buried at Poslingford 30/5/1846 (I also noted in Clare an Elizabeth Wallage 45 buried 5/4/1858 and a Mary Ann 11 bur.2/10/1855).

I then looked at the 1841 Census for Poslingford and found:

New England, Poslingford, Suffolk - ref. HO107-1033-4-4-3

Charles Worledge   45
Mary Worledge        45
George Worledge    25
Francis Worledge     10
Eliza Worledge         7
Betsy Worledge        6

Since the census and burial age suggest a birthdate of c.1815 I then looked on familysearch and found:

George Wallidge, son of Charles and Mary, bp.6/11/1814 Suffolk Bishops Transcripts

It doesn't show where this was but in view of the census I bet it was at Poslingford.

The 1851 Census for Poslingford (HO107-1787-466-4) shows Charles bc.1793 Poslingford, Mary bc.1795 Clare with dau. Betsy and grand-daughter Mary A. - all are shown as Worledge.   Mary A. is 6 years old and born Clare.   I also noted that Elizabeth Wallage in Clare was bc.1813 so she must be the one buried 1858 and presumably Mary Ann (with her grandparents in 1851) was her daughter.

Although shown as Worledge in Poslingford census the name was clearly Wallage as shown in civil registration and the NBI.

You need to now have a search done of the Poslingford records.   There is a submitted tree on Ancestry which I've just viewed which concurs with my findings above and that George was born Poslingford 1814 and died 1846.

Good luck.

Annette
