Golcar Parish?
« on: Sunday 18 January 09 19:57 GMT (UK) »
Are there records for Golcar Parish?  My 2xG grandparents lived in Golcar and had 7 children but I've found out from the 1911 census that one of them was born died between censuses.  Looking at their spread of children, I've guessed that the child was born (and died) between 1895 and 1911 - either between the 1891/1901 censuses, or between the 1901/1911 censuses.

I've been using FreeBMD to try to narrow down the possibilities for the name of this child - discounting improbable ages, or names that they've already used, etc. but am still overwhelmed by the amount that I have left.  Is this the way I should go about it.  Are there Parish Records for Golcar, where they lived - or could they even have been using another church?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thank you. :)

Thank you. :)  I have had a look at his site and sent him an email.  It looks like there used to be Golcar PR booklets at the Huddersfield Family History Society, but they don't seem to be listed any more, so I might email them as well. :)

I don't have any access to any of the parish records apart from on Find My Past and I don't know if they cover the churches I want for baptisms, or if this child was baptised - I'm a Find My Past novice.  I have been using it to serach the burial indexes to see if I can narrow things down any further than I got with Free BMD (which was the whole of Huddersfield.)

I'm probably not looking for the missing child in the right way, but it's certainly still interesting. :)

No problem - I'm looking for the 'missing child' of Lelia and Sykes Mellor - born, I believe, between the 1891 and 1911 censuses.  (Sorry I can't be more specific).  I already have the names of their other 6 children - Edgar Stanley (1886/7 ), Frank Beaumont (1888), James (1891),  John Beaumont (c. 1893), Annie (c. 1895), Kathleen (c. 1899) and Ellis (1906).

Hmmm....

My records don't go up that far I'm sorry, but Steve may well be able to help you.

Sorry
