Charlotte Louise KENO/Conrad HEMP married 1879 Queensland
« on: Sunday 18 January 09 07:24 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace this 1879 marriage that was recorded in Queensland. I have my fingers crossed that someone knows the history of this couple (or even related).  I presume Conrad is from Germany. Charlotte could have possibly been born in New Zealand. There are no further recordings for births or deaths in Queensland or NSW for the name HEMP that I can see. Could there be any other name variations for both surnames?  (I have tried many but could have missed some). So far I have got a lot of information on the game KENO and the natural fibre of HEMP but can't seem to crack it! ???

Thank you in advance,
Minnie

Hi,

Unusual name, so I wonder if this could be his birth?

Conrad HEMP    JAS Q 1844    Newark    15  548

I have researched alot of KEMPs and they are often transcribed/written as HEMP so could Conrad be a KEMP instead of a HEMP :-\

Daisy

 - mention here of some references for him and other Hemps, in NSW - including multiple names, by the looks of things!

Are you still there, Minnie?

I, too, am interested in Charlotte Louise KENO, although I am not related to/descended from the family, and have information I am happy to share. What is your connection? Charlotte Louise was born in Australia to German-born parents, Fredrick and Louisa KENO nee VOIGHT/VOGHT. (The surname 'KENO' appears to have Anglicized.)

Two points to make.
Firstly, it seems quite common for people from Queensland to have moved to NSW; I have an ancestor who married in Brisbane, and then settled in Sydney in the early 1900's. Perhaps Brisbane was easier to get into, or just a good step-off port. Who knows?
Secondly, a little off-topic, but Lisa, from what part of Germany did your Voights come from? I have a Frederica Voight who married a Frederick Lindner, and came out to SA.
Darren
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Not certain where Louise ?VOIGHT was born, Darren. 'Hannover', is as good as it gets, most likely the 'Kingdom of' ....

Supposedly Fredrick was born Goettingen, Hannover (present-day Niedersachen) so perhaps Louisa was, too.
