Hi

I just came across your posting offering to take photos of addresses in Glasgow. My great grandmother Bathia Robertson lived at 36 Blackburn St. I don't know if it still exists but would love to have a picture of it if it does.
Thank you
Diane

Hi Diane,
Afraid it's not a street I know.  I'm thinking it's North Glasgow, not too far from the centre.  Probably near Hawthorn Street.  Where I THINK it was is pretty much flattened now and nothing remaining of the 'original' buildings.
You don't mention the time period but I guess if it's your great grandmother we are talking 1900ish?
Have a wee look around Virtual Mitchell* for some pics of the area.
Chances are, she lived in a traditional Glasgow tenement.

I have old maps of Glasgow but I'm renovating just now and everything in boxes.

If you don't get a more specific answer from anyone, remind me in a month or so and I'll try and help you out a bit more.

Dave

Hi webweaver,

Unfortunately there is a Blackburn street today, but it is modern just off Paisley Road West, not the one that used to be in Govan. If you google, you can get a result on BBC Scotland on Film archive, 2 of the respondents mention Blackburn Street, and one says there is no photos in Mitchell Library either.

Hi Tom

Thanks for your reply regarding Blackburn street.
I have two references to Blackburn St. in my documents. One is in 1919 the other in 1945. I assume this must be the old Blackburn Street not the current one. Do you know when the original street was torn down?

Thanks
Diane

It's the same street - although the current Blackburn Street is much shorter - used to run from near the Foot Tunnel on Govan Road to Paisley Road West - if memory serves me right the current Blackburn Street is a small housing estate built more or less on the same peice of land - late 1980's
